Chapter 9

Gotham University

Kaneki turned around and saw Rachel being bullied by the six guys that he beat up. He was getting irritated on what he saw. He didn't like it. Why would he like it? They were forcing her to crawl on the floor as they spat on her face.

He started cracking his fingers as he began approaching the helpless girl. He's not gonna let something terrible happen because of those idiots.

The six bullies suddenly heard a familiar sound boomed out from behind.

They turned around and saw that it was the 'emo freak'. The guy who beat them up easily. It was Kaneki. They gulped as their legs began shaking. They were scared of him.

"It's him!" One of the six reminded.

"Get away from her, before I kick all your asses again." Kaneki threatened before his hands form into a fist.

"Let's go." Their leader surrendered before all of them walked away and went to their classroom while their legs were still shaking.

"You okay?" Kaneki offered his pale hand to the sad girl who was crawling on the floor.

"I'm fine." She then took the white haired emo's hand before he pulled her up to stand.

"You're that-" Rachel was interrupted by Kaneki when he pulled out a handkerchief and started wiping her saliva-stained face.

"My name is Kaneki Wayne. Don't worry. I won't hurt you. If those guys bother you again, let me know. Have a good day, Rachel." Kaneki stopped as he put back his handkerchief in his pocket before proceeding to their classroom.

Rachel looked away in embarrassment. Her cheeks turned red as she watched Kaneki went to their classroom. He was the first guy that ever stood up for a freak like her. And not just any guy. He is Kaneki Wayne. The adopted son of Bruce Wayne. The popular handsome guy at school.

"How did a freak like you, got a chance to talk to my sweetie Kaneki? How? Why did he even stood up for you?" A voice mocked from behind.

"Yeah, right. Why did he even stood up for a freak like her?" Another voice mocked from behind.

"How did a freak like her made my Kaneki fall for her?"

Rachel turned his head around to know who was insulting her. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw who it was. It was every girl at school. They were jealous of her, since Rachel was the only girl that Kaneki ever talked to. He even stood up for her and cleaned her face with his handkerchief.

The black haired girl looked down in sadness. She was tired of getting bullied. She has powers that could destroy this whole place and kill her bullies right now, yet she never use them. She only wanted to have a normal life. She wants to be free from Trigon. Free from everything.

The bell rang and every student quickly ran to the exit.

Rachel was proceeding to the hallway as she carried her blue bag. She then felt a cold hand behind her. She turned around and her cheeks turned red again when she saw who it was.

It was Kaneki. The white haired eyepatched japanese teenager. The popular handsome guy at school. She took a step back when Kaneki held her hand.

"Will you come with me?" Kaneki offered.

"O-O-Okay" Rachel stammered. Why did she accept? Is it because he's only the popular guy at school that stood up for her? She doesn't what she's doing right now.

It was a nice afternoon. The sun was shining bright in the sky as many people inside the coffee shop were chatting and drinking.

Kaneki was stirring his coffee as he stared at Rachel who was sitting in front of him. He was on his usual emotionless face as Rachel looked away while her cheeks were getting very red.

Rachel was getting uncomfortable everytime those cold grey eyes landed on her. She was trembling. 'Is this a date?' She thought.

"Why did you bring me here?" Rachel asked as she looked down to see the cup of coffee on her hands.

"To make you happy." Kaneki answered as he try to remember about the conversation he had with Bruce.

"Kaneki! Before we leave tomorrow, I need you to find a way for Rachel to wear this." Bruce showed a silver heart necklace on his hand to the ivory head emo.

"What is it?" Kaneki questioned as he grabbed the necklace from Bruce's hand and began staring at it.

"It will let us know everything what will happen to her, while we are away. We can't let a meta-human go unchecked. What if something happen to her? She might go on a rampage. We don't even know what she's cabable of. That's why, you have to put that thing on her. We're only doing this for safety precautions." Bruce informed.

"Yeah, sure. I'll do it." Kaneki agreed.

"What?" She questioned.

"Can you and I be friends?" Kaneki asked as he began sipping the coffee on his cup.

"Friends?"

"Yes." Kaneki put down his cup when he finished drinking his coffee.

"Of course!" Rachel accepted happily that she smiled. For the first time of her life, she finally had a friend. Her first friend is also the popular guy at school. The guy that she never expected that wanted to be friends with her. Rachel was brought back to reality when Kaneki suddenly placed a small velvet box on the table.

She looked at the small box, wondering what's inside.

"What is this? Is this for me?" She asked as her face began to heat up.

"Yes. Open it." Kaneki crossed his arms and leaned back on his seat.

Rachel opened the small box and her eyes widened in surprise when she saw what's inside. It was a silver heart necklace.

She gently took the necklace from the box as Kaneki stood up from his seat.

"Let me put it on you." Kaneki offered.

"S-S-Sure." Rachel stammered. Kaneki was the first guy that ever gave her a gift. Of course! She was surprised.

The white haired emo slowly place his gift onto Rachel's neck. He was trying his best to not blush as he finally managed to put the necklace around Rachel's.

"It looks beautiful on you, Rachel." Kaneki complemented as he began to stare at Rachel that is now wearing the necklace that he gave to her.

He sat down as he began to crack his fingers while Rachel was stunned in astonishment.

"T-T-Thanks, K-K-K-K-Kan-n-neki." Rachel stammered as she began sipping on her cup to hide her blushing face.

"It's getting late. I'll drive you home." Kaneki offered.

"No. I can manage." Rachel refused. She didn't want Kaneki to know the location of her house and she doesn't want Kaneki to know that she's the daughter of the strongest demon.

"Are you sure?" Kaneki questioned.

"Yes, I'm sure." Rachel's face began to turn into a serious one. She really doesn't want her emo friend to know her biggest secret.

"Just be careful, okay." Kaneki advised, "Don't go to any alleys and weird places. I don't want you to get hurt, while I'm away."

"Where are you going?" Rachel questioned.

"My dad and I are going on a business meeting tomorrow." Kaneki lied. He was actually going to find the meta-humans around the world with Bruce.

"Aren't you too young for that?"

"It doesn't matter if I'm young. What matters is that I can do it." Kaneki smirked as he grabbed Rachel's bag before handing it to her and stood up.

"I see. Good luck. I'm gonna stay in here for a while."

"Bye." Kaneki began walking to the exit and left, leaving Rachel inside.

Batcave

"Damn! I almost fell in love with her." Kaneki admitted as he leaned against the wall, while Bruce was typing on his computer.

"You're too young, Kaneki." Bruce retorted.

"I know. Just don't remind me." The white haired emo began cracking his fingers before wiping the sweat on his face with a towel.

"Who the hell is he?" A voice asked from behind.

They turned around to see who it was. It was black haired woman wearing a very expensive dress.

"Diana Prince. Meet Ken Kaneki. He's gonna be helping us find the other meta-humans." Bruce informed while the woman began walking towards Kaneki.

Kaneki was a bit confused. He didn't know that Bruce has another ally, besides Alfred and him. But Kaneki only decided to shrug it off.

"What do you do?" Diana asked the eyepatched japanese, who was giving her a glare, "You only looked like a normal teenager."

"Kaneki can track a meta-human by smelling them. He's the reason why The Joker is in prison right now." Bruce answered Diana's question for Kaneki's sake.

The Wonder Woman turned her attention to the the billionaire playboy, "Is that it?" Diana questioned.

"He wiped out Joker's men in mere seconds." Bruce informed.

"I see." Diana said as she gave a look at the japanese emo who was cracking his fingers.
