Her Mate, His Luna

Chapter 20

* Aliane's POV*

    I don't know how much time had passed since I'd entered the safe room. It felt like days, but I know it only felt that way because of the boredom and worry. Since Iván brought me here early in the morning, I'd only heard two women cry out in pain at the loss of their mate. 

    Alberto and Alexandro woke up a while ago. They were currently playing with some of the other pups on the left close to the wall. All of the female warriors left behind to defend us moved around to position themselves in a half-circle around the sick, pregnant, and pups in case someone broke in. 

    Izzy and I talked to some of the women, me getting to know them, and Izzy catching up. When I suddenly felt a small hand on my leg. I turned around to see who it was, sensing it wasn't one of my nephews. When I looked down, it was a little girl. I bent down to her level and smiled at her. 

"Hi sweetie, what is your name?"

"My name is Mazzie, Mrs. Luna."

"Well, Mazzie, do you think you can do me a special favor?"

    Mazzie's eyes widen in shock as if she couldn't believe what I just asked her. I just giggled a little at her cute face. She stood there, seemingly processing what I asked her before nodding her head at smiling at me once more. 

"I want you to call me Ali. There is no need for you to call me Mrs.Luna."

"Okay, Ali. Do you think we could be friends? 

"What, of course, we can. I'd love to be friends with such a sweet and beautiful person like you."

    Mazzie blushed at my words and looked away. 

"Will you come and play with us, Ali?" Mazzie asked, looking at me again.

"I would love to play with you guys." I smiled at her.

    I stood back up and took her hand. We walked the short distance to where the rest of the pups were. 

"Hi, pups. Do you think me and Mazzie can play with you guys?" I asked, looking down at the pups.

"Yes, Aunty A, come play with us. You to Mazzie." Alberto said

    I laughed and went to sit down, but I heard the door open to the secret room before I could. The door to our secret room opened, and I smelt my mate. I let go of Mazzie's hand and ran through the crowd of people. I was halfway through the crowd when I was able to see his handsome face littered with bruises and a claw mark. I ran the rest of the way to him, and as soon as I was in his arms reach, he pulled me into him. We stood like that for a few seconds, and then I pulled away. I grabbed his face with my hands and checked his injures once more before pulling him into me. 

"I'm so happy your alright, my love. I was so worried." 

"I promised you I would come back to you, Mariposa. I never break my promises."

"Never leave me again," I whispered in his chest, letting my tears fall. 

"I never left in the first place, princess. Come on, let's go up to our quarters." 

    I nodded my head and let Iván lead me out of the room. Before we left the safe room completely, Iván turned around to address those in the safe room.

"It is safe to come out of the safe room. We have three casualties, and for their mates, I'm deeply sorry. Mary, Cindy, and Alondra, please let me and the rest of our pack help take care of you. I am aware that this is a hard time for you. Later today I'd like the three of you to come to my office separately. I will handle the funeral preparations. Take care of your selves; as for everyone else, I expect you all to go about your day as if it were normal until I can address the pack as a whole. For now, please come out of the safe room."

    With that, he turned around again, grabbed my hand, and we walked away.
