Chapter 2: Who could he be?

1043 Words
SCARLETT’S POV Life flashed before my eyes. The perfect memories I had envisaged, now looked like a mockery to me. I gazed at the gate behind me, before shutting my eyes and taking several steps forward, while trying my best not to feel dejected or less of myself. Due to the pain and anger brewing in my heart, I gave into my inner self and turned into a hairy brown wolf. Without further ado, I ran far into the woods, as far as my legs could carry me. Filled with a renewed zeal and hope for a brighter future, I raced into the cold woods and didn’t stop for once. Unexpectedly, I felt a different aura in the middle of the woods, alongside scents that were unfathomable. Feeling an ounce of fear, I abruptly stopped in a bid to find out what was going on. I gazed around and saw nothing, hence: I heaved a sigh of relief and continued my race. Just when I thought I was safe, the scent became even stronger than before, hitting my nostrils and sending cold shivers down my spine. My thoughts ran wild, causing me to eventually stop once again. The aura became unbearable for me. This gave me the hint that I was being followed. As my chest thumped, I slowly turned and froze after seeing four weird-looking wolves standing behind me. Feeling an influx of fear, I gulped loudly and gazed intensely at them. They were all male wolves with a weird smell, one could refer to them as rogues or rebellious wolves. The wolves were all dark and had a particular eye color, a golden sclera, and a red pupil. The hairy one among them glared at me as though we were sworn enemies from the past. With little or nothing to do at that point, I swallowed hard and swiftly turned around, and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I felt the ground vibrating due to the intensity of the hot chase that was being given to me. It suddenly felt as though I kept entering from one problem to another--- subconsciously. Just then, I arrived at a flowing river and looked back in fear, only to see the wolves running towards me with anger and rage in their eyes. I looked sideways but there was a ditch on the left and a thick thorn path on the right. Going to any of the areas simply meant that I was looking for death. Hence; I chose the easiest death and jumped into the water, despite having no idea how to swim. Subconsciously, I transformed and found myself gasping for air and calling for help with my hands up. As the water quickly carried me away, I raised my head one last time and waved at the wolves who were standing not far away from me. It was said that death was the end of one's lifetime and lifeless people had no idea what was happening to their bodies. It felt different because I could vividly feel cold fingers running through my body. I wriggled a little and opened my eyes for the first time. I moved back a little after seeing the number of people gawking at me and touching me on the chin. A caramel-skinned woman crouched down beside me and smiled while signaling everyone to move away from me. “Dear? What’s your name?” Still unsure of who she was and why she had a weird scent, I remained mute and just gazed at her and every other person. “I’m Hazel Dante, and you’re in Nolan town. You were found by the bank of the river, that’s why we brought you here. You don’t need to be afraid, we even covered you up” Realization immediately struck me, causing me to look at my body and the wrapper that was used to cover my body. I gazed back at her, frightened, and also grateful to have survived the scary wolves and the water too. As though she had seen the fright in my eyes, she helped me stand up and finally addressed the people. “As you all can see, she’s fine and needs nothing but rest. I’ll take her in and give her comfort while awaiting Master Zephyr” She held me by my waist and was slowly leading me into the mansion when my eyes subconsciously landed on a figure I had never come across. I stopped abruptly and gazed at the man who was approaching me. He had straight brown hair that was combed to the back, alongside a well-chiseled chest and a pair of blue eyes. I held my chest and glued my eyes on him as he walked past me. I whispered beneath my hitched breath, “Who could he be?” Hazel suddenly held me from falling and asked with concern, “Is everything okay with you?” I gazed at her and nodded, “I’m okay” Her eyes lightened the moment she heard my voice. She smiled and led me inside the mansion, and uttered no word until we got to the main room. Hazel suddenly stood in front of me and pointed at the golden statue before me, “This is the spitting image of our lord, Master Zephyr. This is all I can tell you for now, I’ll let you in on things when you are well settled” I was about to reply to her when I felt my knees suddenly going weak. Hazel rushed to me and helped me ascend the stairs. We got to the beautiful room that was painted in white color and slowly lay on the extra fluffy bed with white sheets on it. On seeing how exhausted and sleepy I was, Hazel slowly left the room and shut the door. Just then, I felt a cold breeze sweep past me, causing me to open my eyes and behold the figure I had met earlier. With a blurry vision, I saw him advance towards me and spread the sheets on my body. As he was about to leave, I held onto his hand with my left hand. “Who are you? And why do you enjoy doing this to me?"
