Chapter seven

1166 Words
Summer A few days had passed, and I was still in the hospital. Ethan never came back after that day. The only thing I received from him was a short message saying that his personal assistant would come to pick me up once I was discharged. Today was finally the day. My small travel bag was already packed and sitting beside the bed. I sat on the edge of the mattress, my hands resting on my lap as I waited. Every few seconds, I glanced at the door, expecting it to open at any moment. I wasn't sure why my heart was beating so fast. Maybe it was because after today, everything would change. "Why are you so nervous?" Amelia asked suddenly. She was sitting comfortably in the chair beside my bed, watching me with amusement. Ever since I woke up, Amelia had been by my side almost every day. She talked nonstop, brought me snacks, and somehow always found a way to make me laugh when I was feeling down. Elena was truly lucky to have a friend like her, even if she could be incredibly annoying sometimes. "What are you staring at?" Amelia asked with a grin. "You've looked at that door at least twenty times in the last five minutes." I rolled my eyes. "I have not." "You absolutely have." She pointed at me dramatically. "And you are never nervous. Not even when you find yourself in the middle of a disaster. So tell me, is this because of the Alpha King?" She wiggled her eyebrows playfully, I forced a small laugh. If only she knew the truth, the reason I was nervous had nothing to do with Ethan. I was about to walk straight into the home of the people who had murdered me. I would be living under the same roof as them. All while searching for the perfect opportunity to uncover the truth and get my revenge. One wrong move and they could kill me again. I pushed those thoughts away before they could show on my face. "Why would I be nervous because of him?" I asked casually. "I'm just curious about what it will be like living with him and his family." Amelia immediately moved her chair closer, her eyes lit up with excitement. "Oh, speaking of his family, I've heard some terrible things about them." She lowered her voice as though she was sharing a dangerous secret. "People say they aren't nice at all. There have been stories about Ethan taking in breeder wolves before. According to the rumors, there have been at least five of them. Rumors have it that it must be his fiancée's doing," Amelia continued. "She doesn't want anyone else taking her man." She took a deep breath. "Knowing the kind of family you are going to, I would have suggested you do not go, but you have enemies out here too, and only the king can protect you," she said. I nodded slowly, as I sat there, I realized something. I had been so focused on getting my revenge and finding my way back into the palace that I had completely forgotten about the woman whose body I had taken over. I knew almost nothing about Elena. "What was Elena like?" I asked. Amelia squinted her brows in confusion. "I mean, what was I like before I lost my memories?" I quickly corrected. A smile appeared on her face. "You were nice, crazy, but fun to be with," she said. "You have a very big heart, but you love money too much, so you scam people." I stared at her. "I thought I am a stripper," I said. "You remember that?" she shouted. Her reaction startled me. "It means your memory is not completely lost," she said excitedly. I quickly shook my head. "No, you mentioned it when we first met," I lied, hoping she would believe me. The last thing I needed was Amelia becoming suspicious of me. "Why do I scam people if I was a stripper?" I asked. The question genuinely confused me. In my mind, those seemed like two completely different ways of making money. If Elena was already earning a living as a stripper, why would she need to scam people too? "You love money too much and you've got bills to pay. I will tell you more about your lifestyle when I visit you at the palace. Can you please speak to the king on my behalf so I can get access?" she asked. Before I could respond, the door to my ward opened. Doctor Charles walked in alongside a young woman who looked to be in her thirties. She was dressed impeccably, from her tailored outfit to her expensive-looking heels. She was also very beautiful, the kind of woman who turned heads without even trying. Doctor Charles introduced her as Ethan's personal assistant. He explained that she was there to pick me up. The woman barely acknowledged my presence. Her eyes swept over me briefly, filled with so much disdain that it caught me off guard. "I will wait outside," she said coldly before turning around and walking out of the room. I watched her leave , I had never met any of Ethan's personal assistants before, but I had heard Tamara complain bitterly about one of them several times. I couldn't help wondering if she was the same woman. After completing all the discharge procedures and signing the necessary documents, I finally left the hospital. Outside, I hugged Amelia tightly. "Take care of yourself," she said. "You too," I replied. I promised to keep in touch before following Ethan's PA to the car. The drive to the palace was painfully quiet. Neither of us spoke. Every now and then, I could feel her eyes on me through the rearview mirror, as if she was studying me. I ignored her and stared out the window instead. My mind was elsewhere, fear and anxiety, those were the only emotions I could feel. I was going back to the very place where I had been murdered. Going back to face the people responsible for my death. Eventually, the palace gates appeared in the distance, my heart immediately began pounding harder. The car rolled through the gates and stopped in front of the massive mansion. I reached for the door handle, ready to step out, when Ethan's PA suddenly grabbed my wrist. Her grip was surprisingly strong, I turned to look at her. "Whatever stupid game you are trying to play, you better stop it," she said in a low voice. "Or you will lose... and you might even lose your life too." For a second, our eyes locked, I quickly pulled my hand free from her grip. She smirked as though she knew something I didn't. Without saying another word, I pushed open the car door and stepped outside. Taking a deep breath, I looked up at the huge mansion before me and started walking toward it.
