“No, ma’am!” Felix said firmly, his voice steady but humble. “Please, I haven't done anything in hopes of getting something in return, in fact I didn’t think about any of these things. I just acted on impulse and jumped in, nothing more than that.”
The elderly woman seated across from him, regarded him with a knowing smile, her hands resting lightly on the edge of her armchair.
“I had a feeling you would say that!”
She replied,
“So, I have taken the liberty of doing a bit of research, I hope you don't mind. I understand that your wife’s company is facing some challenges? Well, we can lend you any amount you wish to help ease the burden—”
