' The sun watches what I do but the moon knows all my secrets'
Cid Kosumi
There was never a dull moment in the Kosumi household. Distinct aromas filled the air reminding Cid of his family's orgins. His mother was in the kitchen frantically preparing dinner she's been working on for hours, claiming she didn't have the time to finish it. The house wasn't huge but it was enough to house the roudy bunch of Indian-americans.
Like normal, Cid was sprawled across the couch with a thick book of romance tangled in his fingers. Thick reading glasses were pushed up against the bridge of his nose as his eyes dashed across the pages. At his feet his Great Dane, Tiny laid. Her speckled white coat looked sleek even with the dimmed lights and the candles flickering.
This was Cid's perfect night. The house was for the most part quiet, his mother played gentle music to drown out her fast paced cooking while the rest of his siblings and best friend were whisked away in their bedrooms. Unlike most traditional homes, the Kosumi's house was lived in. Baskets of unfolded laundry and boxes that have yet to be unpacked littered the house. Shoes and thrown around bookbags too.
Cid glanced over the top of his book his glasses sliding down the brim of his nose when he connected gaze with his best friend. The brown skined beauty was dress in one of Cid's sweatshirts, barely there shorts peek out from the thick, soft material but Cid couldn't bring himself to point it out.
"Still reading? I'm honestly a bit surpirsed your eyeballs haven't fallen out yet." Her raspy voice croaked. Cid couldn't surpress the small smile kissing the corners of his mouth.
Ishani and him had been friends for roughly 5-6 years, they used to be apart of a large friend that fizzled out within a year, freshmen year to be exact. Ishani and Cid were the only remaining members and frankly, Cid wouldn't have it any other way.
"I am, in fact, still reading. What can I help you with, peasant?" Cid playfully smiled at his best friend who rolled her eyes reaching over to pet Tiny's huge head. The miniture horse only blinked drearily at her before setting her head down on Ishani's lap.
"We've been here for about 2 weeks, yet we haven't seen any of the sights Caesarspointe has to offer. For old times sake, tonight, after dinner lets go out." Ishani stared at her best friend with pleading eyes. Her eyes were the shade of freshly brewed coffee, Cid was always a sucker for brown eyes, especially the big does ones. The same ones his best friend just happened to have.
Sighing rather loudly, Cid took his glasses off and ran a hand through his neatly styled hair causing it to look more fluffy then normal. But like always, he nodded. Exploring new places was always their thing, and Cid always looked forward to it.
"Fine, but you have to buy me some skittles, since I can't have d**k right now I need to remember how to taste the rainbow." Cid smiled cheekily before heading into the kitchen with his mother, leaving his best friend with a wide eyed expression.
The kitchen smelt heavenily, on the table his mother had placed a huge pan of butter chicken and a few dishes of long and short rice to meet the needs of her demanding family, along with a bowl of mixed veggies. Cid kissed his mothers cheek hovering over her shoulder trying to see what else she was preparing.
"C, theres a such thing as personal space, I love you but move." She smiled sweetly at her middle child. Cid's mother was beautiful, she had long lushful salt and pepper hair that was consantly in loose beach waves. Unlike Cid and his younger brother, she had toffee colored eyes. Striking enough to stop anyone in their tracks at the sight of her.
It certainly stop Cid's father.
Ishani laughed at Cid's pouting face as he took a few steps away from his mother, making sure to stick his tongue out at Ishani. "If you really want to help me out, call your siblings down and get your father from the study. That man is going to lose the rest of his hair worry over that case."
Cid chuckled at his mother's annoyed expressiom before he went off to do what she asked of him.
Jogging up the stairs, Cid quickly located his older brothers bedroom, and knocked his ringed fingers agaisnt the dark oak door. After a few seconds his brother, Amir, opened the door and raised a brow without saying anything. Cid and his brother weren't all that close despite being born only a year and half apart from each other. They weren't hostile with eachother but after Cid came out as bi his sophmore year, things between them only grew worst.
Cid didn't believe his brother was biphobic but he was just closed minded towards Cid in particular.
"Dinner's ready, mama is called for everyone." Cid kept his sentence short and to the point, he tried to keep his interacting with Amir to a minimum if he could. There is nothing worse then someone judging someone else for who they love and or how they represent themselves. Walking away from his brothers door he knocked agaisnt the last door on the hall.
The door opened within seconds reveling a middle school sized girl with long dark brown hair and toffee colored eyes. "Whatcha need?" Her braces covered teeth flash as she spoke to her older and favorite brother.
"Dinner's ready, Maia." Cid smiled a bit, reaching forward his gently brush her thick hair away from her eyes. Cid was always extra careful Maia, she was by far his favorite sibling and he would do anything for her.
The short girl followed her brother down the stair before they split ways, Maia heading to the kitchen while Cid head down the front hallway towards his fathers study.
The french doors were already pushed open displaying a dark haired man sitting at a dark oak desk with the computar light reflecting on his mature face.
"Hey C, you need something?" Despite his father being up to his ears in paperwork and this new case down at the firm he still made time to check in on his son. Cid smiled at his dad shaking his head before gesturing over his shoulder. "Mama's calling everyone to dinner, says you'll lose all your hair worrying over this new case."
Cid watched his fathers eyes crinkle as he laughed at his wifes' antics. Cid smiled himself, he wanted to find a parter to grow old with, to create a family with like his parents had done. Shaking his head, Cid and his father were the last to arrive at the dinner table.
It was safe to say dinners at the Kosumi house were always wild.
"There was this one fish with a mouth as big as Ishani's, I seriously started to have war flashbacks." Maia shuddered, Cid couldn't hold himself from laughing and pointing at his best friends with an open-mouthed face. The table was swamped with light chuckles, no matter were in the Kosumi house you were someone was joking about something.
"Maia, be nice, the fish probably had an awful day and didn't need that on top of it." Cid's mother covered her mouth daintily with her hand; no doubt laughing behind it. As the brunt of the joke. Ishani just frowned and pouted while stuffing her big mouth with Cid's mother's delicious food.
After dinner was done, the kosumi family dispersed out into the house, each member going in a different direction. Cid lead Ishani up the stairs to his bedroom, like normal, they plopped onto his bed face first and just laid there unmoved.
It wasn't until Ishani rolled over and stared at Cid did he move even the slightest inch. "How soon are we waiting to leave? Mrs. K wouldn't care, just ask a bunch of questions and Mr. K wouldn't even bat a lash." She groaned, it was clear boredom was choking her from the inside. Cid couldn't help but laugh at her, Ishani was always a drama Queen even when they were kids, especially when they were kids.
Cid sighed and rolled off his bed, and tugged in a big oversized hoodie of his before turning to look at Ishani.
"C'mon you brat. We have s**t to explore."
—
The buzzing sound of crickets and other insects croaked as Cid led Ishani down the jagged path. They had both stopped by a local corner store and picked up a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and a shareable bag of skittles.
"I thought you quit?" Ishani's voice was more raspy then normal due to the smoke seeping from between her lips. Cid didn't reply for a second, the death stick hanging out of his lips as he held the light to the butt end of it.
"It's hard to stop when you're smoking around me 24/7." Cid kept his head low while he blew out the smoke, it tasted awful. Cigarettes were truly disgusting, Cid knew it, Ishani knew it.
Yet neither of them could stop.
Cid alternated between taking drags of the cigarette and shoving a hand full of skittles into his mouth. They walked side by side down the street. It was always quiet in Caesarspointe, the nights were warm and humid without the distance sound of insects.
"It's so peaceful out here." Cid paused, there was a narrow path leading up a hill side. Cid was always one to get himself into trouble or just explore places no one as ever tried to.
"This would be the perfect town to murder someone in, no one really minds others business." Ishani grinned at the concerned look on Cid's face. They had been friends long enough to know what made the other laugh. Cid just simply rolled his eyes and grabbed onto her hand, dragging her up the path with their flashlights the only source of light.
They must have looked like the teens from vintage movies, exploring undocumented land. That may or may not stumble across and abandoned shed and be a victim of a famous serial killer.
After a few minutes of silent hiking, Cid paused again. His beautiful dark eyes wide as he took in the stunning view. They were in a the top of a hill looking over the light dusted town of Caesarpointe. It was strangely quiet for a well populated town but Cid didn't mind at all, he was more blown away with the view then anything else.
"f*****g wow." Ishani gasped, gripping onto Cid's arm tightly. She was pushed right underneath him, her curl mess of hair dusting the bottom of Cid's chin. "It's stunning."
The moment was almost comical how romantic it could have been, and one side it was considered as such. But on the other it was very clear it was simply two friends admiring the gorgeous view in front of them.
On the top of the hill were two separated benches for hikers to admire the view not that anyone ever came apart for a single Caesarspointe senior. He was there, hidden away in the thick shadows of the trees. Lazily flung over the old and chipping bench seat, his long blonde hair was thrown over his broad and exposed shoulders the prominent crimson colored streak made him stand out the most a part from his beautiful and blazing auburn eyes.
He watched the friends admire the view, the one he watched every night with an empty heart. There was something about the pair. The way the girl looked at the pretty boy beside her, her large eyes watched him like he watched the view with admiration and amazement swirling within those dark irises. The senior couldn't blame her, the boy was beautiful with his tan skin with strong features the senior felt bad for her, it was clearly some unreturned emotions there. He knew that better than anyone.
He continued to watch the pair until they turned to return to ground level, the crazy haired male just leaved back. He'd been there for hours slowly sipping a stolen lukewarm beer, and he planned to be there for hours more.
