CHAPTER SEVENZela found that she had quite a long wait when she reached Victoria Station. Fortunately the waiting room was open and so she sat comfortably in it. There was an early morning train picking up milk and produce and it stopped at every Station. She paid for her ticket and found a ‘Ladies Only’ carriage that remained empty all the way. It was well after seven o’clock when she finally arrived at Canterbury Station. Zela thought it would be difficult to find a Hackney carriage at that time in the morning. Luckily there was a young farmer she knew who had brought some produce to be sent by train and he said at once that he would be delighted to give her a lift home in his rather battered cart. If she had found a carriage for hire, she would have gone straight to the bank. He
