"David must be joking, for setting a meeting with one of his w****s" David's mother, Mrs Walker snorted
"Mother,please be nice"
"Nice? My appearance alone speaks of how nice I am playing boy", Mrs Walker said and rolled her eyes.
Raising her glass to her lips she added, "I do not know why you choose to marry a w***e anyway", taking a sip and quickly grabbing a napkin to pour the liquid in her mouth away as the liquid came in contact with her tongue, she shouted cleary exasperated, "What sort of wine is this? Damn this place!"
A waitress practically ran to their table to inquire what the problem was.
Panting, she asked "Ma'am is anything not to your taste?"
"Clearly! Do I look like a happy customer to you? What sort of question is that? Or are you some computer that has programmed speech in the head?" Mrs Walker spoke in one breath and started to breathe heavily immediately.
David only shook his head and laughed bitterly as he watched the scene unfold.
Customers from neighboring tables were watching intently.
The miserable waitress who had to suffer all the attention alone, stood with her mouth open as Mrs Walker complained. She recovered when Mrs Walker hit the table hard and questioned, "Are you even alive? What is this?"
David laughed and spoke finally. "You can go. Please prepare the dish I asked for earlier. You can bring it to our table in the next thirty minutes. Thank you"
The waitress muttered a Sorry ma to Mrs Walker and a Thank you to David as she walked away from the table.
Leaning close to his mother, he whispered, "Mother must you always make a scene? You could have just ordered a specific drink, rather than tell the waitress to surprise you and complain afterwards"
His mother rolled her eyes and mimicked him by whispering too,"If your w***e had been here already. All of this would not have happened. Perhaps you would have told her to at least come early".
Just then, Rosalia rushed to their seat apologizing profusely. " I am so sorry Mrs Walker for keeping you waiting. Traffic was hectic and I had an impromptu-"
"It's fine. I'm sure my mum does not mind at all" David replied for his mother
Mrs Walker snorted again
"Mother, this is Rosalia Ajello. The woman of my dreams"
His mother only mumbled a 'whatever' and snorted again
"So uhm gold digger, what do you do for a living apart from shagging white men for money" His mother asked
Rosalia shrugged inwardly since that was what she really did to survive but answered politely "Mrs Walker, I am the head of the Human Resources Department at -"
"One of my son's company. I know, you already have your roots buried deep inside of him. Smart b***h" Mrs Walker sneered
David could no longer take it but to scold his mother. " Mother, I will not tolerate this . You practicing your vile Language skills around my woman, no less showing all this disrespect to her mother when you meet her or I will gladly cut your allowance and you know that I do not b****y care"
With fear in her eyes, Mrs Walker whined " But David-"
"Do not test me"
Clenching her fist, his mother gave in. Resting the back of her palm on her forehead feigning a headache, she said "But we can do with her for your bride. Can I leave now?"
Mrs Walker is known for her childish demeanor. She is a woman of class, born into a family that made lots of money and married a rich man as well. She is used to being pampered and spending money however she likes and whenever she wants even though her hands have never earned a single dollar bill. After the death of her husband, she is left to fend on the money her son allocates to her.
Money. That was her leash. She must behave properly, especially when her son asks her to or there would be no money for her to spend.
Standing up and grabbing her bag, she snorted the last time and walked away.
Just then, the waiters arranged the course David had ordered. Once the foods were arranged and the servers had left, Rosalia chuckled awkwardly and spoke, "I am sorry for coming late-"
"It's fine. Do you have some free time or do you have to go now?". David asked, inwardly wishing she would not have to leave at once.
"I will always have time for you Sir, what do you wish for me to do?"
His heart ached as he listened to her response, he was beyond happy, when she responded positively but the 'Sir' and the part that sounded like a servant waiting for his master's command hurt him.
Smiling and pointing at the varieties of food at the table, he said, "Can you stay and enjoy all of this with me?"
"Of course, Sir".
...
" I am sorry for coming late. I didn't mean to make a bad impression" Rosalia apologized as David led her to her ride.
"You already apologized twice. It's fine. After all, you still came. My mother can be so childish sometimes"
David held her right hand in his and continued "You just met my mum and Elizabeth is no longer a stranger to you. I have so many cousins and nieces but no siblings. Most of them are not in the country but they will be attending our wedding".
Our wedding, Rosalia thought. The thought that she would be married to David does something to her insides. Like she's in pain and at the same time pleased. Like she's happy and sad.
"You seem tired, is all well?" David asked with one brow raised
"All is well" Rosalia stated
"You need to take more breaks or employ another assistant. I can't have my wife looking tired all the time" David chided
"I am totally alright" Rosalia stood her grounds
"I make a lot of money to provide all you would ever want. I see no reason for you to still work hard. Perhaps you would want to quit?"
"I am totally fine Sir. You don't have to worry"
"If you say so. I won't coerce you to do anything ". David relented as he opened the door for her to enter.
He got into his car and watched her car leave. He wished she would fall in love with him.
