Serena Vale didn’t sit down. She didn’t smile. She only watched. Like she was studying something that might break at any second. Naya sat stiffly in the hospital bed, still trying to process the fact that she was inside Cassian’s body. This was impossible. This couldn’t be real. Serena suddenly stepped forward and grabbed her chin. Naya flinched. “You’ve changed,” Serena said quietly. “I got shot,” Naya replied quickly. “People change after that.” Serena didn’t react. “Cassian doesn’t.” Silence. Then— Slap. Hard. Naya’s head snapped to the side. Her heart raced instantly. Serena didn’t look angry. Just observant. “Say my name,” she ordered. Naya hesitated. Another slap. “Say it.” “…Serena,” Naya said. Serena’s eyes narrowed. “Full name.” Naya’s jaw tightened. “…Serena Vale.” Serena finally released her. “Good,” she said softly. “At least your memory still works.” Naya held her cheek, trying to steady her breathing. Serena turned toward the window. “You were supposed to meet your father tonight.” Naya froze. “Father?” Serena glanced back. “Yes.” Then she added calmly: “And if you don’t show up…” Her eyes darkened slightly. “He’ll replace you.” Naya frowned. “With what?” Serena smiled faintly. “A dead body.”
