Chapter 4: The Problem

861 Words
Scorch’s POV I was scaring her. Why did she have to be an elf…? I knew just by looking at her gorgeous face that she was my mate. She had long waist length honey blonde hair and dark brown skin. Her vanilla scent gave me chills. A lot of shifters would have killed her but how was I supposed to murder such a beautiful and delicate creature? My own mate. I wanted to make her mine, but it would end in her death for sure and I couldn't force her to stay with me. The dragons would rip her apart if she stayed. I couldn’t be selfish, so I let go and she left running. I sighed in defeat because, after all that time of waiting for her, she turned out to be an elf. I shifted into my dragon form and flew back to the city. I landed in front of my family’s house. It looked like my sister was leaving with her boyfriend who probably just got there. I growled which got her attention and she walked to me leaving him where he was. “Hey, what's up?” She asked while wanting so badly to go back to her mate. I wanted to go back to mine too but for me, it wasn't that easy. “I found my mate,” I told her with a scold on my face. She squealed. “Oh my god! Really?? Where is she?? I want to meet her!” She looked around fast and back to me then noticed my expression. “What's with that look? Oh no... did she reject you?” I shook my head. “Nope. She's an Elf.” I answered hesitantly. Diamond sneered. “That's terrible!” A frown appeared on her face. “I'm sorry. Did you reject then kill her?” I looked away. “I couldn't reject or kill my mate. If your mate were an elf, would you have killed him?” Diamond whimpered. “I see your point.” She had a thoughtful look on her face. “Is she scared of you? Did she try to kill you? de-wing you?” I didn't like what she's accusing my mate of. “That's the thing. She was different from the typical elf. She wasn't afraid. She was the bravest person I ever met. It was strange. She's like no elf I've ever heard of.” Another one of my sisters’ squeals was heard. “Forbidden love! Oh my god, this is so exciting!” I swear my sister is such a lovesick, hopeless romantic, fangirl sometimes. That's why I knew I wouldn't regret telling her about my elven mate. “Shhh keep it down,” I whispered. My sister quieted down, and her mate started to call her over. “This is amazing news, but I gotta go. Just whatever you do, don't reject your mate.” She smiled then ran off to her mate. I had a lot to think about. I walked downtown which was the most crowded place in the city. I saw a group of my friends, so I walked to them. “Hey, guys." I waited for them to all greet me back before asking, "What do you think about Elves?” Honestly, I was suddenly interested in them obviously it was because my mate was one. They all look at me confused and as if it was a dumb question. “Is that even a question?” one asked. “I mean wasn't it all a big misunderstanding?” I added. “Well, I guess but, even if one of us attacked why start a war? Why kill the defenseless?” The female in the group answered. “They're still attacking now… they are scared of us, and they think we're monsters who need to be tamed. When my little brother when he was ten he shifted for the first time. He left the city excited and a group of Elves de-winged him… he can't fly now or ever. We don’t allow minors to leave the city because of that. They're de-winging our people, even a few adults… and we haven't harmed them unless it was self-defense. You could see information about attacks on the news or find it online. Our law is harsh, but most of us don't follow it because we’re not murders like them. I guess the law is just to scare them.” Her voice has so much sorrow when talking about this topic. It’s funny I used to follow the law religiously if I saw an elf, they were as good as dead. It's a good thing I didn't see many. She had good points so why was I defending them? Because my mate was one of them? I was so confused. I nodded to them, walked away and out of the city. My eyes widen because I had a bad feeling about my mate. She might have still been in The Dragon Forest... f**k, she was gonna get hurt. I needed to go to her. I shifted into my dragon form and took off.
