Chapter 12 August in Washington DC can be beastly. August, 1927 was no exception. Heat and humidity combined to choke air out of the atmosphere. Bill detested sweating. He was in a foul mood when checked into the Willard in time for a call to Margaret. He planned a light dinner after that. He thought about his appointment to meet with Director Hoover tomorrow. He permitted himself an extra glass of wine before going up to his room. He watched a woman push through the revolving door and head to the restaurant.
