Chapter Six"Did you know?" her tone, she's aware, is accusatory, but she can't help herself. "Don't be stupid," he says, hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles have turned white. His surprise seems genuine, but she can never tell with Jackson. She doesn't know if she can trust him, not after all those lies that she believed so blindly. "I didn't know," he turns to her, expression earnest. "I swear," he says without breaking eye contact. "Eyes on the road," she says. He turns his attention back to the road ahead of him and keeps driving. The distance makes her feel less like she's suffocating.
