Chapter 1

Nova's pov

'Sitting in the principal's office is the last place I wanted to be during my free block' I thought to myself as I stared at a piece of peeling paint off to the side of principal carter's head. "Nova are you even listening to me?" Principal carter asks me which makes me snap out of my daze. "Of course I am principal carter you were talking about how my grades were plummeting here recently." With an audible sigh principal carter says "Ms.Nova must I remind you that if your grades keep going in the direction they are going we are going to have to expel you from this school we simply cannot afford to have these grades from any student to affect the good name of this school." 'yeah sure unless they have a ton of money from their parents bribing you into giving them good grades' I thought to myself before saying. "Of course I remember sorry to have wasted your time with me being here but I had already planned on dropping out I-" I was cut off by the door being slammed open by none other than my best friend beck who saved my life from a car accident 4 years ago. "Mr.Beck need I remind you that these interruptions-" He started to say before he got cut off by Beck. "Nova we have to go NOW!" Beck proceeded to exclaim with a look of pure panic on his beautiful face his emerald green eyes wide as dish saucers his normal perfect shaggy black hair very disheveled. "What the hell is going on beck" I say as I'm already jumping out my seat and grabbing my bag. "I'll explain we just have to go now" Beck says as he's grabbing my hand and pulling me along. "Sorry principal carter we will have to finish this conversation later" I yell over my shoulder to the ,now furious as well as kinda stunned, principal as beck continues to pull me along. As soon as we are out of the doors of the 'very esteemed' school I was graciously allowed a scholarship at I started laughing. " Thank you, I really needed out of that suffocating hell hole" I said between fits of laughter when i realized beck wasn't laughing with me like he normally does I stopped making him stop as well. "Beck what's going on that wasn't just to get me out of there like every other time was it" I asked panic starting to set in as I realized something was truly wrong and not just another successful escape from the monotone voice of the principal. Beck slowly shook his head that's when i really took in the true look of panic in his eyes not the usual playful glint. "We have to go I can't explain it to you like I said I would I'm not even fully sure myself what's going on mom just called me during my break between classes and sounded extremely scared" beck said while starting to pull me along with him again to his car. I follow him picking up my pace with panic and now adrenaline setting into my body "like how scared though beck like the time I wrecked the four wheeler trying to keep up with you while you ran as your wolf?" "No nova worse" he said as we reached the car and clambered in "like when robbers broke into the house when we went to the movies and you stayed home studying for the last history test and you went to the store to get some snacks thinking you got kidnapped instead." My thoughts were already racing and I couldn't help my leg bouncing and my hands shaking while we pulled out the nearly deserted of students and faculty school parking lot sqeuling tires as we went. It was quiet in the car aside from the low volume of the radio while we drove the 10 minutes to Beck's and now My home my thoughts going ninety to nothing with all the worse case scenarios. After what felt like hours instead of minutes we pulled into the driveway and jumped out the car racing to the house not even bothering with the car doors. With beck in the lead for ,obvious reasons, we burst through door as he yelled "mom dad where are y'all?" "We are in here dear" lily ,Beck's mom, called from the kitchen. We both let out an audible sigh of relief and walkan to the kitchen. "What's going on" beck asked his mom and dad before I could even think of something to say. Lily and Trevor looked at each other before looking at the both of us with pain and unshed tears in their eyes. I even started to tear up seeing them like that knowing something was extremely wrong to have Trevor ,becks dad, tear up like that afraid of what was going to be said next I sat down at the table just looking at them. "It's time son" Trevor said to Beck. Confused with what that meant I looked between becks parents and him urging them sitently to go on cause I had no clue what the hell 'its time' meant but from the look of utter pain and sorrow on becks face I could tell he knew exactly what was going on. Beck simply asked "are y'all sure?" His parents just nodded a simple yes in response not helping my confusion any. "Can I know what y'all mean by 'its time' time for what" I asked looking between the three of them with my still confused look. Lily was the first to speak after what felt like minutes of silence when in reality it was only a few seconds "do you remember the car accident that beck saved you from when you was 13?" I could only nod ,as the unshed tears started falling now, at the memory of the upside down and on fire car that me and my parents were in their last words being 'go with beck dear him and his parents will keep you safe we promise we love you nova don't ever forget that please' I was kicking and screaming begging for them to save my parents too as beck and his parents tried to calm me down right before the car exploded with my parents still inside. "Well dear it was but wasn't an accident per se" lily choked out while her own tears started falling. I looked up at her in bewilderment 'how could she say that' I thought to myself before Trevor finished explaining while lily just sat and cried. "Nova darling your parents were-" he paused before continuing thinking of the right words to say "special so to speak they weren't just regular humans they were so special people were trying to get rid of them someone ,we don't know who, hired a few guys to cause the accident to kill you and your parents that person didn't know you were alive until today." 'My parents were special what did he mean by that' I thought to myself as I looked at him through the tears building up in my eyes. "We received a letter in the mail saying they knew nova was alive and where she was ,which is a given considering we got the letter, and they were going to come get her by any means necessary tonight so beck you need to go get your stuff and hers packed and go with the plan we already had set just in case something like this happened" Trevor said sternly. Beck nodded in agreement as he dashed up the stairs hurrying to pack his stuff before getting to Nova's just in case she wanted to do it herself. I sat silently twirling my necklace ,the last gift my parents ever gave me before the accident, with questions running through my mind. I looked up at my best friends parents and asked "what do you mean by special?" Lily finally having calmed down spoke in a meek voice "they were a one of a kind my dear something truly magnificent we can't tell you everything just yet darling but you will learn in due time just please trust us we would never do anything to harm you." I just nodded and spoke a low 'okay' knowing I wouldn't get anymore answers out of them. "Please go help beck with packing what y'all want to take with you we have some packing to do as well before we all leave" Trevor said before helping lily to her foot heading up the stairs to their room. I sat for a few more minutes just thinking over everything I've been told 'my parents were special in what way though and people were after me and now Beck and his parents as well all because of who my parents were'. Begrudgingly I decided it was time to head up stairs and start packing.
