Episode 2 – One Week Before the Wedding

306 Words
If someone had told me a week ago I’d be standing in a church about to marry a man I barely knew, I would have laughed, then cried. But here I was. One week earlier, Talia Prescott was living her usual life, long hours at her graphic design job, tight budget, and a tiny apartment filled with sketches and half-finished dreams. Nothing glamorous. Nothing planned. Until the call came. “Ms. Prescott,” said the voice on the other end, smooth and cold like ice sliding over glass, “you’ve been selected for a unique opportunity. Mr. Dominic Castellano requests your presence.” I thought it was a joke. A scam. One of those ridiculous “meet a millionaire” schemes. But when Dominic’s private assistant showed up at my door with a plane ticket and an envelope filled with documents, I realized this was no joke. I had no idea why. At the lavish Castellano estate, everything was a blur of polished marble floors, expensive suits, and cold, calculating eyes. Dominic barely looked at me, but his presence filled every room. “Why me?” I asked, voice barely a whisper. His icy gaze met mine. “You don’t need to understand yet.” Days passed in a haze of meetings and cold dinners. The truth was impossible to ignore. I was being groomed for a contract marriage. Not love. Not a future. Just a business deal wrapped in lace and ceremony. The pressure was suffocating, but I had no choice. The reasons were buried deep, debts I didn’t know I owed, secrets my family hid, threats I couldn’t escape. So I said yes. Because sometimes, survival means making impossible choices. And now, as I stood in the gilded cage of that cathedral, I couldn’t help but wonder, what had I really signed up for?
