I wiped away the tears that stubbornly threatened to fall, resigning myself to the fact that my future was sealed. Now, we needed to work on the façade of the marriage we would be living.
I thought for a moment, reminiscing about the past when I first met Giovanni at the bar. Back then, he seemed like a good man, different from what he had become now.
"We can continue with the story of how we met at the bar," I finally responded. "We have Susan as a witness, and that would make everything more plausible. So at least the part of how we met would be true and it would be easier to answer questions if anyone decides to investigate.
