The day after our tumultuous honeymoon in the Caribbean arrived, I was determined to regain control of the situation. It was time to get back to work, to the Cordopatri family business that had long been a fundamental part of our lives. It was a way for me to distance myself from the problems Massimo was creating with his attempt to separate Mia and me, even though our marriage was a facade.
In the morning, I dressed in a dark and elegant suit, as I always did for business, and left the suite I shared with Mia. She was still asleep, and I didn't want to wake her.
