Kai
We ordered in food first, which sounded like we were taking our sweet a.ss time, but we weren’t, it was important for a werewolf to eat a lot because of the fast metabolism, and if you weren’t eating enough you’d start to become irritable, quick to anger, it would lead to violence and you would start to lose control.
We were halfway through eating pizza when I noticed Grayson kept discreetly leaning towards Natasha, his nostrils flaring. S.hit, double s.hit, holy f***k, Mary, mother of god pray for us sinners I was about to die, painfully, horribly.
Grayson had the best sense of smell out of us all, always had done, he could pick apart a multitude of smells. I knew what would come out of his mouth before he said it.
“You kissed Natasha?”
The whole room grew silent, all eyes on me.
I did what I always did when I felt uncomfortable, I acted nonchalant and happy-go-lucky because apparently I had a death wish. “She’s a single female werewolf, right?”
“My daughter is, yes.”
F.uck, now he was calling her daughter and not Natasha. He’d probably string me up in his chains, cut my lips off, s.hit, or my d.ick!
“Is your daughter off limits?” I asked playfully, but inside I was certain imminent death was coming my way.
He looked at me coolly while Amber and Lara were watching us both transfixed, heads swishing back and forth between us. Lara liked me, she could probably convince him to let me live. I slid closer to her.
“Depends on why you’d be interested in her,” Grayson said.
Huh. I wasn’t expecting that response.
“What do you mean?”
He frowned, giving me a ‘you know what I mean’ look. “Do you just want to have fun with her, or would you want to be mated to her?”
I glanced over at Natasha who was looking at me hopeful, wondering how I felt. How did I feel? I wasn’t sure, I’d never wanted to settle down before, and I’d never had the option. Now I did.
“I don’t know,” I replied and then quickly added, “I would never use her for fun, but I don’t know what I want.”
“You’ve wanted a female werewolf for years, one is available, and you’re telling me you don’t want her?” Grayson arched a brow at me, right, because I’d come on to Lara once when they weren’t getting along, and I’d complained for years that Grayson got it so easy, his mate basically stumbled into his life.
“I just don’t know if we would get along romantically, she’s so innocent, and I’m so, well, not.”
“Then shouldn’t you date her and find out how you feel before you start kissing her?”
“Sorry about that,” I mumbled.
“It’s fine, she can make her own choices, but if you don’t want her, Charlie will.”
Natasha snapped her head towards Grayson. “What!”
He looked at her with an ‘oh s.hit’ face, he’d assumed she knew from all the hints Charlie had been giving her.
“Uh, yeah, I thought you knew, he’s been giving you enough clues, flirting with you, being overly affectionate, acting all gentlemanly around you. He’s been trying to let you know that if you’re interested, he would like to be your mate.”
I watched her face as it all sunk in, and then her eyes widened as she finally saw all those signs and what it had all meant.
“Charlie likes me?” She asked, the note of bashfulness in her voice and the small smile on her lips made me feel, well, I’m not sure, but it was enough for me to say, “well she wants me, so I’ll date her like you said and see how we get on.”
“Maybe I should date both Charlie and Kai?” She suggested to Grayson.
“No!” I all but yelled, then composed myself and more calmly said, “we should only date one another, focus on each other, otherwise we’ll be too distracted by other people.” It sounded lame even to me, but she smiled shyly and nodded. “Ok.”
Grayson gave a sigh of relief, I knew he didn’t like Charlie, especially not for someone as sweet and pure as Natasha, to be honest, I was surprised he liked me enough to allow us to date, I was so convinced he would lose his s.hit, which meant I owed Natasha an apology for not believing her.
Conversation turned back to less awkward topics and when we finished eating, we left. Lara sat up front with Grayson while me, Amber and Natasha climbed into the back of his Lamborghini.
Natasha was in the middle, with our sides touching I felt a flutter of something inside, I don’t know what as I’d never felt whatever it was I felt towards Natasha before.
The mutt was right about female werewolves and their scent, without meaning to sound disrespectful, they did smell like a b.itch in heat, and they smelt even better when they actually did go into heat.
Usually, it was a week or two before their moon time started, and it didn’t make us males go absolutely crazy and lose control, but it did take a lot of self control that some males struggled with if they weren’t used to being around any female werewolves, there weren’t any here in England besides Amber, Lara and Natasha, but our pack had gotten used to their scents by now, still smelt damn good though.
Grayson pulled away and drove fast, making Natasha grip my leg. “Dad, slow down!”
He slowed a little, but not by much, patience wasn’t his strong suit. We rolled down the windows and concentrated on sniffing the air for any sign of the mutt or Winter, f.ucking Winter, what a stupid name just because she was a frost witch, should have just called her f.ucking Elsa.
They weren’t in our town anymore, so Grayson drove to the next city. When we reached Frimley we got caught in traffic and as always with d.ickhead driver’s one moron kept beeping at us trying to make us move forward at a roundabout when it was already heavy with traffic whizzing by and no safe gap to slip into. Grayson beeped him back and Lara cringed, “don’t.”
“Why not? He’s a f.ucking i.diot.”
The guy beeped more aggressively back and then yelled out his window. Grayson rolled his window down and sticking his arm out flipped the guy off which enraged him.
He was a burly guy and was probably used to others being intimidated. He climbed out of his car and walked up to ours. Poor f***k was going to regret it, but maybe it would make him think twice about being a d.ick to people in the future.
He yanked the driver’s door open and tried to punch Grayson. He let the human get his hit, and then he lifted his leg and kicked the guy in the stomach, forcing him back so Grayson could get out of the car.
We didn’t like attention on ourselves, so Grayson blocked the guys next punch by grabbing his fist in his hand, with his other hand, as discreetly as he could, he covered the guys mouth, muffling him, and squeezed his fist breaking all his fingers, the guy screamed into his hand and when he was finished, Grayson let him go and snarled, “next time be f.ucking patient you stupid c.unt.”
Did I mention Grayson had a hot temper?
He climbed back into the car, knowing the man would be too arrogant to let anyone see the damage done to him. We watched as he held his broken hand and fingers down by his side until he was back in his car, then he cradled it, face contorted in pain, he’d either have to drive one-handed or call for help and p.iss of the people behind his car. Karma, I guess.
The rest of the drive was fine, there were one or two women that stared at Grayson from their car trying to gain his attention, it failed, it always did, he never noticed anyone except for Lara, she was all he ever saw, all he wanted.
I got looked at too, and for the first time in my life I didn’t engage or show any interest, I guess I was preoccupied with our search, right?
They didn’t seem to be here either, there was no sign of the witch’s frost, and we couldn’t smell them anywhere, so we checked the other town. It was boring and uneventful, the most exciting thing was us sniffing the air and gagging when we got hit with the stench of rubbish or a dead animal. I could bore you with all the little details if you want, but you’d hate me for it, so long story short, we drove around a lot, sniffed a lot, searched on foot a lot and finally we found them, but not by scent.
