Lucas confidently looked at his mother-in-law, Mrs. Bennett, and continued, "If I lose, I will agree to a divorce without any complaints."
"But if I win, you can't force her to do anything she dislikes ever again."
As Lucas finished speaking, Mrs. Bennett looked at him as if he were a fool.
"i***t! Sitting in jail for three years must have made you stupid! Becoming the best company in River City within a month? Who are you trying to fool!?"
Megan, standing aside, was filled with disappointment.
How could he still be so naive after all this time? Unrepentant and even gambling with their marriage.
Was this something he could decide on his own?
Megan's heart completely gave up on Lucas at that moment.
She coldly said to Lucas, "My matters are none of your concern. I'll meet Liam, and it has nothing to do with you."
With that, Megan turned and went back to her room.
Mrs. Bennett, with a mocking face, said, "No need for a month. Megan is going to spend the night with Liam. If you don't want to be the eternal cuckold, just keep clinging on! As for your bet..."
Mrs. Bennett looked Lucas up and down, his clothes not worth more than a hundred in total.
"You think you're worthy of betting with me?!"
After saying that, she pushed Lucas out the door and slammed it shut.
Lucas stood outside the door, anger burning in his eyes. But remembering that he had indeed wronged Megan over these three years, he suppressed his anger and walked downstairs.
However, instead of leaving, Lucas stood under a nearby tree, waiting.
Soon, Megan came down, her face stern.
Dressed in a fitted long-sleeved dress, she looked elegant and charming.
She drove off, and Lucas immediately hailed a taxi to follow her.
Sitting in the taxi, watching Megan's white sedan in front, Lucas's mind was a whirlwind of emotions.
He took out his phone and dialed a number.
As soon as the call connected, a rough voice boomed from the other side, "Hey, Dragon... Boss, you're back in the country?"
Lucas moved the phone a bit further from his ear.
"Yeah, check for me what's been happening with the Shen family in River City recently."
"Roger that!"
After hanging up, Lucas lazily gazed out the window.
The scenery was both familiar and foreign, only the people had changed.
At that moment, Megan's car stopped.
Lucas also got out of the taxi, watching Megan enter a building named Golden International Hotel, his brows furrowing.
Lucas followed, sitting in a hidden spot near the corridor where Megan entered a private room, casually ordering a few dishes.
On the other side, as Megan pushed open the room door, she saw the beaming Liam.
Liam, dressed in a neat suit, hair perfectly combed, and with his genteel demeanor, looked every bit the handsome gentleman.
"Meg, you finally came."
Megan couldn't help but frown slightly, saying indifferently, "Liam, please call me Megan."
She couldn't accept such intimate addressing. Liam's face couldn't hide his displeasure, and he chuckled awkwardly. Sitting beside Liam was someone else, Megan's cousin, Leo. Hearing her words, Leo smirked and said, "Making Liam wait is one thing, but why so distant? Such a friendly address, don't get too full of yourself!"
Megan's face immediately turned sour. She hadn't expected Leo to be here. In the Bennett family and even throughout the city, Leo was notorious as a playboy and nightclub prince, known for impregnating countless girls and having a terrible reputation. Noticing Megan's discomfort, Liam tried to smooth things over, "No worries, no worries, let her call whatever she likes. Shen is my friend, and your cousin, I hope you don't mind me bringing him?"
Megan was already regretting her decision to come. She should never have come to this meeting in a moment of anger. Megan forced a smile and sat down. Soon, a table full of dishes was served. Liam was the first to grab a bottle of red wine and pour a glass for Megan.
"I don’t drink," Megan said with a frown.
Before Liam could respond, Leo's face darkened, "Megan, aren't you being too rude not giving face to Liam?" He tapped his fingers on the table with a warning tone, "Isn't your company about to go bankrupt? This is a great opportunity. Don't disgrace our family."
Liam remained silent, watching Megan with interest.
Listening to Leo's sinister words, Megan thought of her family's dire situation. Three years ago, John Bennett, the head of the Bennett family, had put her in charge of a struggling company. It had been difficult to keep afloat, and recently they couldn't even pay salaries. This company was her family's hope. But to sell her dignity, she couldn't do it.
She took a deep breath and managed a smile, "If there's nothing else, I should leave."
As she was about to stand up, Liam quickly urged her to stay, "Hey, hey, don't go. Your cousin is just straightforward. Please stay, for me." While speaking, he persuaded her back to her seat, "Here, have this glass as a toast from me. Don't worry, your family's problems are mine too. I'll definitely help."
Saying this, Liam held up his glass. Megan bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then lifted her glass. After clinking glasses with Liam, she downed it in one go, unaware of the cold gleam in Liam and Leo's eyes.
Megan clenched her teeth and said, "This money, consider it a debt I owe you. As for us... I'm already married, it's impossible."
Her hands nervously intertwined. To betray her conscience and engage in infidelity was beyond her. Unexpectedly, Liam remained calm and gentle, "No problem, we'll take it slow. I've been pursuing you for almost a year now, what's a little more time? I believe you'll divorce that waste."
Leo sneered, "Just a warning, Liam is one of the richest young masters in River City. If you miss this chance, it won’t come again!"
"I..." Megan was about to say something but suddenly felt dizzy. Waves of dizziness overwhelmed her, and her eyelids grew heavy. Just before passing out, she heard Liam's anxious calls, then lost consciousness.
"Megan, what’s wrong with you?" Liam called out several times until he was sure she wouldn’t wake up, then a cold smile spread across his face. He patted Shen Kai's shoulder satisfactorily, "Thanks for this idea, it really worked."
Shen Kai grinned sycophantically, "It's my pleasure to serve you, Liam. The room's ready, just go on up!" He handed over a luxury suite key card, then chuckled, "My silly cousin, how could she make you chase her for a year without even letting you have a taste?"
Liam took the key card, sneering at the unconscious Megan, "Just a married woman, putting on airs. Forced me to run out of patience!"
