Chapter 2

Chapter 2 I park my car heading down the sidewalk towards the address for my interview. There are a ton of business buildings on this street. I have a degree in business and marketing. My interview today is for a buyer position. No one actually knows what a buyer does and well that is just fine with me when people ask me what I went to school for they just smile and nod. I expect the same if I get this job, that no one will really ask me what I do on the daily. I am a little early so I stop in front of a coffee shop debating grabbing a cup. ‘Better not! You do not want to ruin your outfit if you spill something.’ Nikita chuckles. She really is a pest sometimes. ‘You know I can hear what you think right?’ She boasts. ‘Yeah. Yeah.’ Unfortunately she is right. I do not have a great track record with coffee before interviews. The last time I had coffee before an interview a biking courier wasn’t watching where he was going and took me and my coffee out. I literally had to stop in a*****e and rummage for something to wear. It was horrible and to top it off I did not get the job. ‘See.’ she prances in my head. ‘Okay. Fine. Let’s just find the building then. Being 15 or so early will not be that bad anyways.’ I look around and check my phone. Looks to be up about three or four more buildings. ‘Did you notice the buildings just keep getting taller?’ Nikita inquires. ‘Yep.’ I respond slightly annoyed at the out of place comment. ‘Be nice. It is good to observe your surroundings.’ Nikita whines. As I walk up to the next building taller than all the rest, I see the sign for Mason Industries. Looks like this is the place. ‘Think they are compensating for anything?’ Nikita giggling in my head. I shake my head while Scolding her to behave. Pushing her back a little so I can focus on the task at hand. I walk in feeling a little uneasy. Heading towards the receptionist desk I breathe in deep, thankfully she smells completely human. This gives me a little ease, but I swear I smell something off here. Hoping it is nothing as I really need this job. She doesn’t look up at me holding up one finger. She must be on a call or something. “Thank you for calling Mason Industries. Have a great day,” as she taps a few keys then looks up at me. “Hello! My name is Xayla Louis. I have an interview at 10:30 for the buyer position.” “Have a seat over there. I will let them know you are here early.” I nod my head to her as I wonder what the point was in telling me I was here early. I push the thought away. What the receptionist does or doesn’t think of me and my timeliness is none of my business. I sit waiting for someone to come calling on me. Time passes and I start to get a little on nerve. I take out my phone and text one of my go to guys for a meet up. If I can get some energy out later maybe it will calm me down some so I can get this interview right. Waiting impatiently I can see he is typing back to me. Before he can respond, a door opens. “Xayla Louis.” The gentleman says completely butchering my name. “I am Xayla,” I politely wave at him. Smelling that uneasy scent again. “Oh, sorry about that. I am not so great at names,” he says as I walk towards the open door. Moving down the hall with him to open into another ‘entrance’ style area with elevators. “My name is Elliott and I will be interviewing you today.” He motions to me to enter the elevator when it opens up and hits the button for the 10th floor. I look and see there are over 30 floors plus the gold buttons that only say A,B,G,and D. ‘I wonder what is on those floors.’ Nikita inquires. ‘By the way, Miss I am afraid of Packs. This guy is totally a wolf.’ She says smirking. ‘WHAT? Seriously. How can I not smell him?’ I begged her in a panicked tone. ‘He must be using a masking spell, potion or something.’ She c*cks her head. ‘I can see why given he is a main floor level worker. No one would want a vamp or other pack to be in their business causing trouble.’ Rolling my eyes. My interpanic killing me, wishing I knew what the answer was to my meet up inquiry. The elevator dings and he motions for me to follow him to the right. I can see it now. The over-built body type the way his muscles push on his shirt. A lower level worker such as an interviewer would not be likely to have such a great body. I take a deep breath trying to calm myself. “Right in here Miss. Louis. I have someone joining us to observe, but we can get started while we wait.” I smile nervously now knowing that I am in the room with another wolf and I am sure he knows it. Damn myself for not using a masking spray myself. Though my spray only masks my scent into a mix of scents. It doesn’t make me not smell like a wolf. “Sure. Sounds good,” I tell him, trying not to be obvious about my new found discomfort. “I was looking at your application. You have quite the impressive background. MBA and Marketing Masters. Trained overseas for a year in the martial arts. Was that between high school and college?” He inquires. “No. I actually went over there between my masters degrees to get a break.” Elliott smiles and nods at me. “So you are looking to become a buyer. It says here you have as little as six months experience in the field of buying. More of your history eludes to marketing and research.” “Yes. I have spent a few years in a different fields. I am looking for something stable and your business has a few openings.” “We do offer stability as we are quite the growing company.” Elliott looks to the door as the knob turns. “Miss. Louis, this is the person I had mentioned that would be joining us.” Not saying a word the man sat off to the side. I smiled and took in his features. He was larger than Elliott considerably, dark hair, strong shoulders, deep eyes, his blue suit fit him well and flattered his skin tone. As Elliott continued with his questioning I turned to him engaging in conversation as I really did need this interview even if there were wolves. The whole time I could feel this stranger's eyes on me. It was like they were burning into me. ‘Yep, another wolf. Looks like you found that pack you were trying so hard to avoid.’ Nikita snickered in my head. ‘This one here has to be a ranked wolf. I can feel it all over him.’ ‘Great. just what I need it to be noticed by a ranked wolf.’ I whined to her, I tried to stay focused on the interview with her chirping in my head. ‘I can hear you!’ I pushed her back slightly. I need her close by to pay attention to our surroundings, but not in conversation with me. I certainly do not want her close enough to the surface for them to get nervous about me and feel I am a threat. As I try to catch up on what Elliot just said. I realized I missed more than I intended as he goes to stand, “I think we are done with this part of the interview. Would you like a tour of the office and recreational areas?” C*ck*ng an eyebrow at him. “Yes we offer recreation onsite for our employees so they can take time to rest recoup and get back to work easily through the day. It helps keep us productive and saves money on insurance and claims. We even have onsite therapists of all kinds.”
