POV: Seraphina Vale
She awoke in Kael’s arms.
Pain licked her skin like cold fire. Her body felt like it had been dragged through the void. Her bond to Kael—once vibrant and golden—was dim. Faint. Barely there.
She touched her chest, and her fingers trembled.
There was a mark.
Dark, intricate lines spiraled outward from her heart, glowing faintly violet and black.
She recognized it from old texts. Ancient warnings.
The Mark of the Abyss.
“I’m still alive,” she whispered, barely audible.
Kael’s voice was hoarse. “You died… and came back. The Codex listened. It chose you again.”
“No…” she said, fear tightening in her throat. “This wasn’t the Codex.”
She met his eyes.
“This was her.”

POV: Elira – Abyssbound
The Abyss hissed in satisfaction.
Seraphina bore its mark now—its tether. She could fight it. Resist it. But it was inside her. Wrapped around her soul like a serpent.
Elira raised a mirror made of shadows and smiled.
“Let her think she has won. That love saved her.”
She touched the mirror.
“Because soon, she will beg me to take it all away.”
⸻
POV: Ryker Vale
He reached them just as Seraphina tried to rise, Kael holding her steady.
“What happened?” he asked, eyes wide with panic.
Kael looked at him, the shadows beneath his eyes deeper than before. “She died. And something brought her back. Something… wrong.”
Ryker’s gaze dropped to the mark on her chest.
He paled. “That symbol… it’s in the Gatekeeper’s tomb.”
He looked between them, heart sinking.
“It means she’s cursed.”
⸻
POV: Seraphina Vale
“Then I’ll break the curse,” she said, even as her body shook.
Kael helped her to her feet, but it was Ryker who stepped forward and caught her when her knees buckled.
“Don’t lie to me, Sera,” he said softly. “Can you feel it? The thing inside you?”
She nodded, tears rising.
“Yes. And it’s hungry.”
⸻
POV: Kael Draven
He stared at the horizon. The sky hadn’t healed from the Shatter Moon. It was still cracked. The barrier between worlds—their world and the Abyss—was thinning.
And Seraphina was now the bridge between them.
He clenched his fists.
“She won’t be your puppet, Elira,” he muttered under his breath.
“She’s mine. And I’ll burn down the Abyss itself to save her.”
POV: Ryker Vale
The wind howled across the Vale Mountains, cold and sharp like a blade. Ryker stood before the mouth of the tomb—sealed for centuries beneath layers of ancient stone and protection spells. Only one of Vale blood could open it.
He pressed his palm to the stone door.
The runes responded instantly, glowing crimson.
The door groaned open, exhaling a breath of stale magic and secrets.
Kael and Seraphina stood behind him. She looked pale, her eyes shadowed, but the fire in her gaze hadn’t dimmed.
She refused to let the Mark define her.
Inside the tomb, the walls were etched with stories—histories of Alpha bloodlines, sacrifices, and the ancient war that sealed the Abyss the first time.
Ryker stopped before a black altar at the tomb’s heart.
“This is where the first Gatekeeper fell,” he said. “Where the last bond was made.”
Kael frowned. “What kind of bond?”
Ryker turned. “The kind that doesn’t just cost blood. It costs everything.”
⸻
POV: Seraphina Vale
The moment she stepped near the altar, the Mark on her chest pulsed.
A memory—one not her own—rushed into her mind.
She saw a woman in white, flames at her feet, standing before the Abyss. A man, dark-haired, eyes haunted, knelt before her.
She kissed his forehead… then slit his throat.
Blood poured onto a blade of silver.
The gate behind them closed.
Seraphina reeled back.
“Who was she?” she gasped.
Kael steadied her. “A Vale. The first daughter.”
Ryker’s voice was grim. “And the man she loved. She killed him to seal the gate.”
⸻
POV: Kael Draven
The deeper they ventured, the heavier the air became.
In the final chamber, an orb floated above a pedestal—pure light wrapped in chains.
The Codex’s twin.
The Anchor of the Gate.
Kael reached for it, but Seraphina stopped him. “It’s reacting to me.”
She stepped forward, and the chains broke.
The orb burst with light—blinding and pure.
Visions flooded the room.
The Abyss breaking. Elira ascending. Wolves burning. Seraphina standing alone at the edge of the world, flames in her eyes.
And Kael… gone.
⸻
POV: Elira – Abyssbound
Elira screamed as the Anchor was disturbed.
“She’s awakened it! No… no, not yet!”
She hurled her hands toward the veil.
“You were supposed to surrender, Seraphina. Not fight.”
But the girl was Vale blood.
And Vale blood never bowed.
