POV: Kael Draven
The words echoed in Kael’s mind like thunder.
“The second seal… is you.”
He couldn’t speak—not at first. The firelight from the Mooncrest catacombs flickered across Seraphina’s face, her skin pale from the vision, her body still trembling in his arms.
“Explain,” he rasped.
Seraphina steadied herself. “When our bond was sealed, it awakened something ancient in you. I saw it… a piece of the Abyssbound trapped inside your bloodline. The Draven Alphas were chosen long ago to guard it—not just with blades, but with their very bodies.”
Kael stood, his jaw clenched. “So I’ve been walking around with this thing inside me?”
“No. Not it. The seal holding it.” She stepped closer. “That’s why the Abyssbound is drawn to you. If you die, the second seal shatters. And if both seals fall…”
Kael didn’t need the rest explained.
“Then I can’t die,” he said bitterly. “Perfect.”
But Seraphina touched his chest gently. “You’re more than a weapon, Kael. You’re the wall between worlds.”
Elias stepped into the chamber, face grim. “Then we need to protect you. Because war is coming.”

POV: Seraphina Vale
Back in Mooncrest, tension rippled through the air like storm winds. Kael tried to hide the toll the news took on him, but Seraphina saw the flicker of vulnerability behind his stoic mask.
She wanted to reach for him. To comfort him. But even now, with the fate of the world in their hands, the divide between their packs yawned like a chasm.
She knew what had to come next.
That night, while Kael slept in the guest quarters, Seraphina slipped away to the Mooncrest council chamber. Her fingers trembled as she dipped the quill in ink.
A letter to the other packs.
A call to unity.
A warning.
“The Abyssbound is stirring. The seals are breaking. If we don’t stand together, we all fall.”
As she signed her name, the ink turned black, writhing on the page like liquid shadow.
Her eyes widened.
The Abyssbound was watching her.
And it knew her name.
POV: Kael Draven
Kael stood before the Blackthorn sacred flame, its blue-gold fire casting long shadows across the stone altar. The room was silent, save for the low hum of energy pulsing in his blood.
He was the second seal.
The thought gnawed at him like a blade pressed to the bone. If he fell, the Abyssbound would rise.
Ryker entered, grim-faced. “The messenger returned. Redfang and Hollowpine received Seraphina’s letter.”
Kael looked up. “And?”
“Hollow-pine's Alpha is considering alliance talks. Redfang…” Ryker hesitated. “They think it’s a trick. They’ve aligned with the Ravagers.”
Kael’s jaw tensed. “Then we’ll have war on two fronts.”
Moments later, Seraphina arrived, riding hard from Mooncrest with a small envoy. Her face was streaked with wind and determination.
“We have one chance,” she said, dismounting. “We form a pact Blackthorn, Mooncrest, and any pack still loyal to the Old Laws. A sacred bond forged in blood and magic.”
Kael stepped toward her. “A unity ritual?”
Seraphina nodded. “More than that. A magical vow, sealed under the Blood Moon. It will protect the seal… and make you nearly unkillable.”
“But there’s a cost,” Kael said quietly.
She looked away. “Yes. If the bond breaks—between you and me—the seal unravels.”
Kael’s heart pounded. “Then we hold.”

POV: Seraphina Vale
The ceremony was held atop the Crescent Spire—an ancient altar where fire met moonlight. Elders from both Blackthorn and Mooncrest gathered, forming a circle as the ritual began.
Kael and Seraphina stood at its center, wrists joined by a strip of red silk, magic thrumming in the air.
“I vow to hold,” Kael said. “To guard the seal with my soul. To stand beside my Luna, in life and in death.”
“I vow to bind,” Seraphina echoed. “To protect the line, the pack, and the heart of the flame.”
As the moon turned blood-red above them, their bond flared—visible now to all. Threads of silver and scarlet wrapped around them like vines of fate.
But just as the last words were spoken, the ground quaked.
A terrible howl split the night.
From the woods, shadowed figures emerged—twisted wolves with glowing eyes and jagged teeth.
The corrupted had returned.
And this time, they weren’t just hunting.
They were here for Kael.
