Chapter 10Gael snapped his eyes open. There was a tranquility in his mind he’d never experienced before—not crowded but not desolate either. He wasn’t sure, but he thought maybe he’d been dreaming. He couldn’t of course, hadn’t dreamt in over two hundred years, but he couldn’t stop the fragmented images from assaulting his brain—Archie with tears in his eyes, Edie’s mouth moving as if she was talking. Archie crying? He held his breath for a second before looking around. He was on a bed, a decent-sized bed in a rectangular room with a high ceiling and walls in a dark cerulean blue. The uneven drip of water letting go from above and diving into a bucket on the middle of the floor was one he recognized. For how long had he been here? How much longer did he have?
