The next day, when Meredith received no response from Mark, she called to pressure him into signing the divorce papers.
Mark was visiting Joanna at the detention center and retorted sharply.
After hanging up, his frown deepened.
Deeply conflicted, he absently loosened his tie.
Behind the glass partition, Joanna fidgeted anxiously.
"Mark, is Meredith still giving you trouble? What did she want?"
Without looking at her, Mark muttered distractedly, "She wants a divorce."
Joanna's heart leaped, though she struggled to suppress the smile threatening to break through.
"Really? That's wonderful! Once you divorce her, we can be together forever! Get me out of here now! I can't stand another day in this horrible place..."
