Chapter 21 - Maimed

952 Words
The flashers on police patrol vehicles shone through Detective White’s apartment. The quiet night was no longer quiet anymore even with the loud music turned off. It didn’t end well for Lucas’ friends from Orleans High. They have been declared maimed by a wild bear by the police precinct headed by Captain Harris. Lucas’ birthday party was ruined and his father’s house was considered an act of crime scene with yellow tapes around the house bearing, ‘POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS.’ The attack on Lucas’ friends from Orleans High was b****y. The entire house is stained with blood. Captain Harris was the first to arrive at the scene when Detective White’s neighbors placed several distress calls. Lucas couldn’t protect his friends from the attack of the werewolves, however, before the police could arrive, he was able to rip out the heart of the young man dressed in a tunic before the rest escaped seeing how fierce Lucas was when he gets angry. Detective White was able to recognize the face of the young man dressed in a tunic. “I know him,” he mutters under his breath as he approaches. This was the very young man he met in the woods on the night after his son was attacked. The same young man that mysteriously moved at an accelerated speed after telling Detective White: “What happened here shouldn’t be investigated. Tell your precinct to take off these police tapes as soon as possible.” “What are you doing here?” asked Captain Harris as he approaches Detective White. He was putting up a stone face look showing his anger towards Detective White. He has not forgotten how Detective White went against his will by pressing charges against Jack Styles and his friend Philip for invading his house and abducting his son and leading him to his attacker. Even though Captain Harris pleaded with Detective White to drop the charges and accord some respect to Congressman Styles for his political position, Detective White has proven stubborn and wishes to see justice served. “What does it look like I am doing here? This is my house, have you forgotten?” Detective White blurted out. He’s not a man of too many words but a man of action. He vowed to sue Jack and Philip and he did. However, this has cost him his relationship with his captain. He no longer goes on field missions but is stuck behind his desk in the precinct attending only to paperwork. “This is no longer your house but a crime scene.” Captain Harris argued. “I still have the right to know what happened.” “It’s not your job. Allow the lead Detective to do his job.” “I do not believe the concluding report of this investigation.” “What do you believe?” “The precinct can’t just conclude these kids were maimed by a wild bear. Are we not tired of using a wild bear as an excuse for our failures instead of digging deep to know what happened here?” “Perhaps you should ask your son what happened, for now; the precinct will go by what your son and his friend have said.” Detective White sees no reason to question his son about what happened. The lead Detective has done that already and has as well questioned Jane who was present at the party and they both still maintained the same report: “there were screams and by the time we could know it, someone attacked us from behind and knocked us out,” Jane and Lucas reported to the lead Detective. “We were awoken by the sirens,” they added. ‘If the two witnesses are saying the same thing, there’s no need for further questions, but there's need for further investigation besides their report,’ Detective White said to himself as he walks out on Captain Harris. He still can’t believe his house could be the next maiming zone for whatever that has been attacking the people of New Orleans. Before the Police could pull over in front of Detective White’s house, Lucas advised Ann and Bonnie to flee the scene before the police arrive. “It will be better for you two not to be questioned by the police,” Lucas told Bonnie and Ann before they both disappeared into a white glowing light. AT THE MORGUE THE NEXT DAY About 12 friends of Lucas were maimed and police declared them dead on arrival. Their corpses have been moved to the morgue and the day just dawned with the morgue diener attending to other corpses when he suddenly heard multiple rattling sounds coming from the morgue cabinets. He flicked around in fear swallowing a lump in his throat as the rattling sound continued growing louder. In his five years as a diener, he has never experienced such. He’s freaking out and his mind flashed back to the zombie apocalyptic movie he watched the other night thinking that the dead are coming back to life. He slowly picked up the scissors used in ripping apart the deceased cloth. He’s ready to stab the head of the undead as seen in movies in case the zombie apocalyptic movie becomes a reality to him. As the rattling sound continued, he braced himself like a man and slowly draws closer to the cabinets with the scissors well positioned. He held the cabinet by the handle and pulls it towards himself only to reveal glowing yellow eyes with white shinny fangs. “Ahh!” he screamed dropping the scissors. Within a twinkling of an eye, he got pounced at with fangs buried into his neck.
