ADELAIDE
I woke up panting heavily. My legs are tangled up in the soft sheets. I look around, trying to get my bearings. Where am I? Suddenly, the last 24 hours flashed back to me. Oh, right. Grey Ridge, my new life. I lay back down and try to slow my heart rate. I dreamed of the fire again. Everytime I have this dream it feels so real. It was like I was there, almost as if it was a memory. I always wake up with the fresh smell of smoke in my nose and sweat dripping down my back. I look over at the small clock on my bedside table. Only 3am, I hopped out of bed and walked over to the bathroom. I splash some cold water on my face and take some deep breaths. Your'e okay, I tell myself. I get back into bed and pull the covers up over my head, I finally drift back to sleep. the dream doesn't return.

I cover my mouth and try to breathe in any air I can, smoke is surrounding me and ash falls from the sky. There are screams of women, children and men around me and I feel hopeless. I am screaming out a name. Who's name? I don't know. The forest that surrounds us is on fire and there are wolves fighting all around me. The clash of their teeth and tearing of muscles and fur can be heard. I see her moving towards me, her long dark hair whips around her. She reaches out a hand and her mouth opens, calling for me. The fire consumes her and I am screaming. My heart feels as though it is ripped out of my chest, the pain is unmeasurable. A blinding light fills the air and there is silence. I look around and my warriors stand still, the enemies have fallen, all at once. What is happening? I run to her, she is lying lifeless on the floor and I pull her into my arms. I brush the hair from her face and her bright green eyes are dull and lifeless. My wolf is whining hopelessly and my tears fall on to her as I sob. I couldn't save her.
I gasp and claw my way out from under the covers. What the hell was that? I feel hot and sweaty. The dream I was having came back to me. My wolf, Hunter, is whining in my head. "Mate" he whines. My heart beats faster. "Our mate?" I am shaking. "She will die, we have to find her" he whines and paces back and forth. "It was just a dream, Hunter". I don't know if I am trying to convince him, or myself.
