Chapter 4

863 Words
Ellie and I are giggling in the kitchen, talking about all of our plans for when one day we might get to leave this awful pack, when suddenly the kitchen door slams open. "MATE" a random guy is staring intently at Ellie. She looks at him in surprise and whispers back "mate". My jaw falls open. You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me. They cross the floor and Ellie falls into his arms. I leave the kitchen quickly, giving Ellie some space with her new mate. I can't believe this is happening. Ellie is going to leave me and I am going to be stuck here by myself. I pace back and forth wondering what I should do. "We could run away?" Nova suggests. "Where would we go? We have no family, no friends, no money. We will be alone" I huff back, annoyed my wolf would even suggest that. "You don't know how strong we are, Adelaide" she whispers, as she retreats back into my mind. "What do you mean Nova? You keep saying things and they don't make any sense?" I waited patiently for her to answer. "You will see. One day." I growl at her. Wasting my time with her riddles wasn't helping me. I make my way out to the garden. I breathe in the scent of the freshly mowed lawn and look up at the stars. "Adelaide! Are you out here!" I hear Ellie calling me from the doorway. "Yes! out here", I call back. "OMG! Can you believe this", Ellie says as she runs up to me and hugs me. I hug her back. I truly am happy for her as much as I am sad I will be left here alone. "What's his name? Where is he from? When will you leave with him?" I ask her excitedly. I don't want to dull this moment for her with my sadness. "Addy, you won't believe this. He is the Alpha's gamma! I won't be an omega anymore! This is more than I could ever ask! His name is Zeke and we are leaving tomorrow" she gushes. "wow..." before I even finish my sentence she butts in. "Get this! Alpha Kyle is looking for a new chef" she looks at me expectantly. My head reels as I take in all of the information. "Wait.. You mean THE Alpha Kyle from Grey Ridge!?" I exclaim. I am trying to process everything she is telling me. "Yes, THE Alpha Kyle! and he's not as bad as everyone says, he was actually really nice to me! He's also looking. for. a. new. chef!". She pronounces each word slowly, waiting for me to catch up. I sigh as I realize what she is trying to say. "I can't leave Ellie, Alpha Edward would never let that happen". I hear someone approaching and look over. It's Ellies mate, Zeke. "Hi, I'm Zeke" he reaches out his hand. He was quite attractive. Short dark hair and dark eyes, his smile lit up his face making him seem approachable and friendly. He puts his arm around Ellie pulling her to him. She blushes and looks up at him like a lovesick puppy. "I don't like to admit that I was eavesdropping, but I was" he shrugs and Ellie giggles. "It's already sorted. I spoke to Kyle already and he agreed to let Ellie's bestie move with us. He's talking to your Alpha about it now, and trust me, he always gets what he wants", he winks at me and gives us both a huge grin. I gasp and look at Ellie, tears welling up in my eyes. Nova is running circles in my head, elated by the news. I give Ellie the biggest hug. I am so happy I don't have to leave her. She's the only family I have. Zeke mindlinks Alpha Kyle to tell him that I accepted the position. He tells us that Kyle has sorted it with Alpha Edward. He had to argue with him but he put his foot down and Edward gave in. He tells us to go and pack our things. We both rush off to grab our few belongings. We don't have much, so it doesn't take us long. We meet Zeke in the entryway to the packhouse. Alpha Edward is standing near the front door waiting. He grabs my arm as I walk past, squeezing hard he leans down close to my ear, "Tell your new alpha to watch his back. I won't let him just take my pack members without consequences". He pushes me out the door and I stumble. Zeke catches me, growling at Alpha Edward. Ellie puts her hand on his chest and I see him instantly calm down. The power of the mate bond. Zeke leads us to a black SUV. He opens the door and helps Ellie and I in. We are both not used to this much help or attention. Normally, as omegas, it is our job to help others. My heart swells with happiness for Ellie, knowing that she has someone to care for her forever now, and he was already proving himself to be a gentleman.
