LISTEN TO THIS SONG!!! Where does that leave me? By Rupert Gregson-Williams!!!
I gasp, holding onto his wrist as he swipes the cotton bud over the rough edges of my skin, removing the printed colour of blood that seemed to have stained itself onto my face. His eyes somehow makes its way towards my own, the perfect colour of blue orbs, mixed with my own. “Anastasia,” he whispers my name, his forehead resting on my own. I take the lead and rest my hand against his stubble.
“I have to go back, Matias.” He suddenly pauses, pushing his head away.
“No, you don’t.” He brings his fist and wipe his nose quickly before brining himself up for standing, he throws the cotton buds into the trash and washes his hands in the sink, my blood leaking down.
“I do, I committed a treason, do you not understand? They will look for me, they probably are now and, I am not worth it, Matias, they will take you all down, one by one, I will lead them here.” His fist bangs roughly against the marble sink, pushing himself away from it. Anger, sadness, guilt seethed through his face.
“You are not leaving! They will behead you, let them come,”
“They will start a war.” I stand up to reach his height.
“And so be it, let them. You are my mate and I will not watch you walk yourself to your death bed.” I have forgotten his height, him over towering me.
“You cannot stop me, Matias. This is not a decision for you to make.”
“And why is that? Do I not have a right to-”
“No! You do not, Matias I am protecting not only you, but the children out there. They will kill them, they have no remorse, it is better that I hand myself over.”
“You are not leaving, Anastasia.”
“Matias,” I press my hands against his chest, resting my head onto it. I feel him let out a breath of exhaustion.
“I cannot lose you, Anastasia. Please.” My eyes meet my reflection through the mirror, as I also catch a glimpse of his dark hair pressing itself against my own.
This was not up for discussion, I had to leave. I had to protect not only him but his pack and my kingdom. The crown is mine, and if I cannot have it, then I would rather no one does. My mother does not deserve it. She never has and never will. I would rather die with the crown in my hand.
“Okay, I will add more thought to it,” a loud knock on the bathroom door disturbs us both, I turn my head and see Matias walking towards it before he opens it.
“Alpha Alexandra would like the presence of you and the human. Now.” Matias slams the door closed, his fingers rushing through his hair. He looked utterly distraught.
“We have to leave, now.”
“Alpha, as in leader of the pack.”
“My father and mother.” I nod my head in understandingly, “she is a rough woman, she will try to break you but Anastasia, do not let her get under your skin.” He takes a hold of my hand, pulling me close to him. His fingers push a strand of my hair behind my ears. My lips eagerly waiting for his to touch, but we had to leave, we make our way-out of the huge bedroom and into the hallway.
Marble flooring, touch the sole of my shoes. We pass by maids who had no decency but took the time to stare at Matias, where his eyes lay to the ground. As if he were thinking, I squeeze his hands reassuringly. We stood in front of long wood oak doors, Matias pulls down the handle and steps inside an office of some sort.
I follow behind him, “Father.”
“Matias. Where is the human?” Matias glances behind him, meeting my eyes. I take another step from hiding behind him and stand besides Matias. “Is this her?”
“Her? Her name is Anastasia.”
“Anastasia, a weak name. Meaning nothing.” A woman like voice is over heard, I turn my head to the side and see a tall like beautiful lady, her hair, brown infused with white, as if the colour of snow, perfectly held back into a perfect bun. Her eyes, blue, the colour of the sky, same as Matias. She wore a red coloured dress, reaching the ground.
“Mother, do not begin.” Matias withholds.
“Why? She is going to be the Luna; a few words shouldn’t hurt.” She takes her stand before me; her eyes travel down my body. “Bones, no fat, skinny. She would break with just a flick from a child. She’s weak, like her name. Tell me Anastasia, have you released my people for a favour? A spell? A wish?”
“I have released them out of good thought, I do not need nothing in return.”
“That is what they all say, they have need for nothing. You killed my son.”
“She never killed him, mother.”
“Matias, leave, now.” His father interjects, Matias looks down at me. I nod my head before he angrily storms out of the room. Now, only me and his parents alone. I could tell his mother had no like for me.
“I had no idea of the killing of your son, nor would I allow such thing to happen, I had no idea of anything. Nothing,”
“Oh, is it? I heard about you, the spoilt, unworthy princess.”
“That is not true.”
“You do not deserve my son, he deserves someone stronger, now, every time he looks at you, he will be reminded of his brother, is that what you want?”
“No, of course not.” She begins circling around me.
“His brother was only a child, a child! You killed him; the blood is in your hands!” She shouts, her finger pointing in my direction.
“I did no such thing, I assure you, I had nothing to do with this matter.”
“A baby, Matias blames himself! And it is all your fault. If you leave, it will better for him.” I glance down at my feet, unaware where else to look. “He needs a stronger Luna, a powerful Luna, a Luna who can transform into a wolf not a human. You are no match; I do not approve of this nor will I ever. Look at yourself, and look at yourself thoroughly, you do not fit in.” She forces me to face the mirror, I glance at myself and see the weak eyes I portrayed. She was right. She is right.
“You’re skinny, you do not eat, you cannot hunt, you cannot do anything. You, do not belong here. You will never belong here. You might have saved a few of our members but you have no place here, no one cares for you. I can see why your mother had no care for you. Because, you are worthless, Matias will get bored of you and throw you like all his other play things.”
My lips slightly quiver, “get out.” The door opens, I make my leave and see Matias stand up from the couch, he rushes towards me and I glance down at his hands touching my own. Before pulling them away.
“What did she say to you?”
“Nothing, she said nothing.”
“She clearly said something Anna? What did she say!”
“Nothing! I-I am tired, I need some rest.”
