Forty-Two HesitationI would have preferred to take the road leading to the compound, but as they'd locked the front door, the tunnel was easier access. And so, we journeyed back to the old house, a trek that seemed longer with every step forward. Maybe it was the thought of seeing it again that caused me to drag my feet. What ever the reason, I was thankful everyone else walked ahead and gave me the solitude I requested after my brief conversations. Occasional bits of chitchat floated to my ears on the breeze, but I cared little about the words uttered. My mind focused on the views, sounds and smells of the present, resisting any urge to replay yesterday's events or any moment from the past.
