13 Snow Jesse tugged at the reins, slowing his nag. To his right, Esmerelda, daydreaming as usual, took a few extra seconds before following his lead. He shook his head. If he’d been avoiding a trap, she would’ve fallen right into it. “Why are we stopping?” “For once you want to keep on, Princess?” “Only wondering.” “I ken I’ll tell ya when I feel like there’s something you need to know.” “Something’s wrong,” she said. For a moment, Jesse wondered if she, too, could sense what he felt. But it wasn’t so. She was only reading his hesitation and searching for another way to retrieve an answer to her question.
