Chapter 42-1

2059 Words

42 A Confession and a Betrayal Brandyn decided he didn’t like storms when stuck inside the Sepulchre. Back home in Longwood Rush, there was only rain, occasionally the roll of distant thunder, but never these high winds that seemed to make the entire structure sway, threatening to topple. Even at the base, in the falconer’s quarters, where it howled so loudly, it was as if a monster was ripping through. Aylen was oblivious. She sat at Hollyn’s bedside with her wet cloths and periodic laying of hands. Neither did much of anything anymore, if they ever had. Brandyn one night had heard Aylen tell Christian that her healing was so powerless against Hollyn’s affliction that it was the equivalent of blowing cool air on a severed limb. A futile effort that was no match against the inevitable.
