The Tavern at the Middle of the World sat at the end of a town, if one could call it that, called Parth. Storm explained to Brandyn that Parth was mostly a waypoint for hunters and trappers, as it was far enough from the Compass Roads to be useless for most travelers. Parth itself was a single road, half stone and half dust from stone that once was, with a straggle of neglected and decayed buildings on either side. Even the ones in use, like the trading post, belonged to another era. There were no lanterns to help them along their way as they moved slowly, cautiously down the untended road; only the moonlight. The only man-made illumination came from the tavern at the end of the way. He noticed the upper floor first. It was a mess of rotting wood, foggy glass, and a patchy thatched roof.
