Still, I’m not surprised; the Club is full of secrets. Upstairs, there’s a dumbwaiter behind a tapestry, jammed in place and stocked with joints and prescription pill bottles. There’s a false wall in the basement, leading to a small bedroom, and an invisible door, triggered by a spring-loaded floor panel, that conceals a staircase to an attic room and a telescope focused on the condo and Ishtar Club windows across the street.
