Chapter 7 – Shadows of Surrender

1105 Words
Selene POV The night air carried the weight of a thousand unspoken words. I stood at the edge of the training grounds, the moonlight draping Silverfang territory in an otherworldly glow. My skin still burned from Kieran’s touch earlier, the echo of his dominance lingering like fire under my skin. I hated that my body betrayed me so easily—aching for the very man who had captured me, chained me to his pack’s fate. And yet… my wolf stirred every time his scent filled the air. Pine. Storm. Something primal that dragged me under before I could resist. I closed my eyes, breathing in deep. I needed control. I needed distance. But the prophecy had already wrapped its chains around me, and Kieran Stormfang was the lock I couldn’t break. “Your stance is weak.” I flinched at his voice, low and rough, vibrating through me like a command my body had no choice but to obey. He stepped out of the shadows, his black shirt clinging to the muscle and scars that marked him as an Alpha forged in war. His eyes locked onto mine, unyielding, burning. “I wasn’t training.” My voice came out sharper than intended. “You’re always training,” he said, circling me like a predator. “Every glance, every word… it’s a fight with you. Against me. Against yourself.” Heat crept up my neck. He was too close, close enough that my pulse betrayed me. I hated that he was right. Every second in this pack was a war. “I don’t need your lessons, Alpha,” I spat, turning away. But he was faster. His hand closed around my wrist, spinning me back toward him. The spark of contact jolted through me, stronger than it had any right to be. My breath hitched. His gaze dropped—lingering far too long at my lips before dragging back up to my eyes. “You may not want them, Selene,” he murmured, his voice a sin I wanted to taste, “but you’ll take them. Because if you’re going to survive me, survive Elias, survive what’s coming—you’ll need more than that wolf inside you.” The name—Elias—was a lash across my heart. My chest tightened, memories of his cruel smile threading through me. I pulled my wrist free, even though my skin screamed at the loss of his touch. “Don’t you dare compare yourself to him.” His jaw clenched. For a moment, I thought I saw pain flash in his eyes—but it was gone, replaced by the cold Alpha mask he wore so well. “Then prove you’re nothing like him,” he said. “Show me you’re strong enough to stand at my side.” My breath stilled. Not behind him. Not beneath him. At his side. And in that moment, I didn’t know if he was asking for loyalty… or something far more dangerous. --- Kieran POV She looked like moonlight carved into flesh. Defiant. Untamed. Every curve of her body was a distraction I couldn’t afford, yet one I couldn’t turn away from. The bond was a curse. It clawed at me every time she was near, every time she defied me, every time her lips parted with rage that made me want to silence her with a kiss. But it wasn’t l**t alone. It was need. She unsettled me in ways no enemy ever had. Elias wanted her power. The Council wanted her caged. And I… gods help me, I wanted everything. I reached for the blade strapped to my hip, flipping it once in my hand before holding it out to her. “Take it.” She frowned. “What is this, another test?” “Call it… survival.” My lips curved in something too dark to be called a smile. “Strike me.” Her eyes widened. “You want me to—” “Strike. Me.” For a heartbeat, she hesitated. Then she snatched the blade, her grip fierce. She lunged, and the clash of metal against mine rang through the night as I blocked her blow. Again. Again. Sparks flew with every clash, but what ignited inside me was hotter, more consuming. She moved with wild grace, her wolf bleeding through, and I let her push, let her rage, let her bare her teeth against me. Until I caught her wrist mid-strike, twisting the blade from her hand and pressing her back against the wooden post. My body caged hers, her breath ragged, her lips inches from mine. “Better,” I growled, low enough that only she could hear. Her chest rose against mine, her heart thundering so loud I swore it matched my own. She trembled—not with fear, but with the same damn fire that threatened to undo us both. “You—” Her voice faltered, catching on her breath. “You think breaking me will make me yours?” I leaned in, my mouth brushing her ear. “I don’t want to break you, Selene. I want to see if you can survive me.” Her gasp shuddered through me, tearing down walls I’d built since before she’d walked into my life. My wolf howled, demanding I claim her, bind her, mark her until there was no question who she belonged to. But I didn’t. Couldn’t. Because if I took her now, it wouldn’t be for her. It would be for the storm clawing inside me, and she deserved more than that. So I tore myself away, stepping back though every muscle screamed at the loss of her heat. “We’re done,” I snapped, forcing command back into my tone. The look she gave me was fire and ice all at once. Anger. Longing. Fear. And something else I didn’t dare name. She would be my undoing. --- Selene POV My body still burned where he’d pressed against me, my skin humming like the blade we’d clashed with. I hated him for stopping. I hated myself more for wanting him not to. But desire was a dangerous weakness. Elias had taught me that much. And Kieran Stormfang… he was a storm I wasn’t sure I’d survive. I turned away before he could read the truth in my eyes. Before he could see how badly I wanted him, how much I feared that wanting. Because one thing was certain—if I surrendered to him, it wouldn’t just be my body at risk. It would be everything. And surrendering might be the one thing I swore I’d never do.
