Chapter 15 WHERE THEIR ARGUMENT would have gone, we’d never learn. Because an invisible something punched me in the stomach. I swayed, expecting Luke to grab my shoulders. But, when I caught my breath sufficiently to look at him, I saw that he was hunched over. So was Ruth. Justice was the only one unaffected. “The babies?” he asked while steadying Ruth just the way I’d expected Luke to steady me. The pelts in my arms tingled. Or maybe that was just my subconscious reminding me that I had a way to improve the situation. Pushing my cousin’s arm out of the way, I didn’t bother untangling the shed skins before pressing them down on Ruth’s belly as a unit. Should I ask the babies to shift? Send pure healing energy?
