I SWERVED AND FOUND Destiny beside me. Arthur, I heard rather than saw, was struggling to catch up. Five feet back if I had to guess. We couldn’t take off and leave him there. We also wouldn’t have much chance standing our ground when out-massed two to one.
Back in the direction of the gatehouse window, paws thudded against soil. One set. Two sets. Three sets.
We were sandwiched between enemies. Now it was more like four pounds to each one of ours.
I bared my teeth, heartened as Destiny’s shoulder brushed against mine. The two of us wouldn’t go down without a fight.
