Chapter 30
LUKE AND I WERE TRAVERSING the narrow alley that provided a shortcut between the front parking area and Ruth’s residence when they struck. One moment, we jogged along in perfect unison, bound hands swinging counterpoint to the synchronized beat of our footsteps. The next moment, I caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of one eye before my vision went dark.
Hot air pressed against my face as I struck out at nothing. My head was covered by something. A bag maybe? Whatever it was, ties tightened around my throat....
I reached up to drag the obstruction free, only to be tugged sideways so fast I lost my footing. “No time to untie it.” Luke’s voice in my head was clear but his vision was as black as mine. “Feel the wind currents on your arms?”
