Nomsa’s POV
“What could have been better than a Jacuzzi bath after a long week at school? .Dealing with young adults is not for the faint hearted. Obviously, after a taste of freedom, they think they Old enough to do things their way. Oh God, I needed a break.”I whispered underneath my breath as the warm water bubbled gently around my shoulders. The most fascinating thing was the view. Oh my goodness, Cape Town coastline stretched before us The orange and pink melted into the ocean, like the sky itself was blushing.
I could see Annie’s eye glittering, her face full of concern . I could tell she wanted to say something.“ This , Annie sighed next to me , sinking deeper into the Jacuzzi, “is actually how life is supposed to be like , sunset , champagne, no responsibilities .
I laughed , taking a slow sip from my glass . I guess you live in fantasy world my friend , I said with a sly smile . That can only happen in paradise I giggled raising a high five hand as she came closer to me to meet my hand .
“Hey”, she flicked water at me. I screamed splashing her back.
We both ended up in a fit of giggles until Annie suddenly froze out of the blue her eyes darting past me. A sly smile crept across her face.
“Well, well, well my baby can you look at that?”. “What ?”,My head turned like a revolving door, I nearly dropped my glass . I had never laid my eyes on anything like that before.
A tall, handsome man stood at the beach shore Busy stretching himself like he had all the time in the world. The sunset rays hit him at an angle that showed off his sexy physic, his broad shoulders gleamed , muscles defined and sharp. The slow yoga movement he did , made every line in his body ripple with power .
To be honest, he was breathtaking.
There was some silence between us for a while. We couldn’t look away .
“Yes baby”, Annie whispered mischievously, her eyes on me . “You’re staring”.
“ I am not ,” I snarled though heat flushed my cheeks.
“ Yes you are , and if you don’t call him to get his attention and talk to him I swear , I will drag you to him , Annie said with a straight face.
I rolled my eyes to her, but my tummy flattered I was actually attracted to him, but my guts kept on signaling a red light .
“Fine I admit he’s not ugly ,if it wasn’t for this statement ring I was going to try my luck just to get rid of the tension in my life , I glanced at the ring then back to Annie eyes.
“Not ugly , baby that man is a sin walking on two legs” Annie burst out laughing. “Just forget about that James. It’s not like you love him and stuff. He was a ticket out of poverty we both know that so loosen up , Okay” , She giggled.
I tried to glare at her, but my gaze betrayed me sliding back to him. He shifted into another pause, arms flexing, chest rising, and then nothing.
He was gone just after looking away for a minute. Our distraction was nowhere to be seen.
“Whoa !whoa! whoa! where did he , I stattered as I sat up forward browsing through the whole beach area in confusion .
The place was empty as if he vanished into thin air .
Annie frowned “shocking maybe he left or something”.
Her phone buzzed breaking the awkward moment, she hesitantly reached for it . She pulled a disgusted face as if she had seen something nasty when she glanced at the screen .
“Whose calling”,my voice shook with concern as I could see the the look she wore wasn’t a pleasant look at all .
“Who could it be , I just hope it’s not what I’m thinking . No ways it can’t be him after all that drama , it would be brave of him to call Annie” my thoughts flooded my mind .
“No one” , she said too quickly pressing the phone to her ear .
“Hello”, her voice dropped low and hesitant. I could only eavesdrop a few things from their conversation.
“Not now . I told you ! . Okay Fine !” Before she turned away from me .
When she ended the call her face was unreadable .
“Is everything OK Friendie ,”I asked my face fell like a wiltering flower.
“Yeah”, her smile stretched too tight like a mask that didn’t fit .
“Well, I guess we going out . The call was about an instant invitation. I hate last minute invitations,”Annie hissed with anger .
“ By the way who invited us to a party ? I thought you said you don’t know anyone around here.? my lips parted, but no sound came only Silence filled with questions.
“She looked at me in the eye and said let’s get ready for the party. It will be fun. I promise you.”
Something in her tone and unsettled me, but I let it go because I could see she wasn’t ready to talk about it yet.
By the time we got at the beach party, the sun had surrendered to the night. The night scene was something magical fairy lights hung from palm trees, glowing like fireflies, long tables draped in white linen offered cocktails and seafood while a soft breeze carried music across the sand.
Every corner whispered elegance drawing my gaze and refusing to let it go.
This is beautiful I whispered as we walked in. Servers wore casual formal suits, looking stunning.
They stretched out their arms with trays of colorful welcome drinks
“ Beautiful ? Baby this is paradise Annie clinked Her glass to mine .Now no sulking no excuses , tonight we dance.”
Dinner was filled with life and laughter clinking glasses, and music growing louder with every Tik Tok of the clock. The second the DJ announced the dance floor was open. The crowd flooded the dance floor. The first beat and happiness bloomed in me like fireworks.
“ I need the loo” I said to Annie, my face carrying a stamp of uneasiness. “Don’t you dare think of going home early”, she warned me .My eyes made a slow dance towards the heavens and then I slipped away.
So when am i meeting the person who invited us to the party , I doubt Annie is going to introduce the person to me . What if it’s a sneaky link she’s hiding from me ? My inner voice had me thinking.
