Chapter 16

1006 Words
"Well... so much for redecorating." Jasper jokes as both of them look at the now destroyed rock boulder. "At least we practiced first..." Lindon comments, couldn't say anything nice at the moment knowing the danger in their experimentation. They knew, but the experience is something more prominent to remember than the theory that they had come up with. It was both nerve-wracking and haunting. Both of them are thankful that they're practicing first before actually doing their plan to heal the girl. Imagining that they had done it immediately out of their fear and urgency to help her get back to her feet. Shivers run down their spine at the thought. It got them more than five minutes to wake up and recover from the explosion. The sun begins to rise as the two of them stood side by side, watching their rock that's now n pieces. "We should continue this tonight. I have stuff to do and a cute girl to please." Jasper winks. This somehow made Lindon irritable. Not liking to what he had said. Not one bit despite that he already knew the drill and there's nothing flirty nor romantic about his 'job'. "Let me do it." What he said made his cousin stop on his tracks. Immediately turned around with mouth agape. "Ha!?" Is what all he can say, looking at his cousin whether he's joking or not. Lindon rolls his eyes. "I'm not kidding. Let me do it." "But what about your actual job, Mr. CEO?" A small smile graced Lindon's lips. "I'll let you handle it, for now." He said then turned around. Heading back to the house. "No!" Jasper exclaimed after a minute or two. Quickly followed his cousin who's now a few steps ahead. "Lindon! You can't do this to me!" "I already did!" His cousin can only roll his eyes in frustration as he follows him behind. *** Lindon breathes in and out as he faces the door. 'Why am I here again?' he asked himself. He was somehow jealous of his cousin's 'job'... but is that all to it that he had to impulsively claim that he can do much better to this? 'What were you thinking, Lindon?' He scolded himself. Internally hitting himself in the head because he couldn't at the moment. His hands are holding the tray. He looks back down at the tray then towards the door... inhales once again before using his magic to open the door by twisting the doorknob with the wind. 'Here goes nothing...' Upon entering the door, he saw... the girl that he saved a few days ago; pale and lifeless. '...what the hell happened for her to be like this?' he thought. 'If she keeps this up... then we can't do anything.' Gently closing the door with his magic, Lindon walks forward until he reached the small table at the foot of the bed. 'The bed seems to gobble her up.' He comments. Watching the girl who's whitish-grey eyes are opened, stuck at watching her bed's ceiling. He already knew that she's blind and most of her senses are damaged. '...no wonder.' Lindon concludes. 'For years, she got experimented. Her damaged senses weren't caused by accidents or gene mutation.' His heart aches for the girl who's probably seventeen or eighteen, deducing from her height and appearance. She looks young despite that her current physique isn't like that when he had brought her to their house. '...there must be something we should do...' Lindon thought, an invisible lump forms in his throat. Making him swallow multiple times. Gray eyes are now looking back at him, making him almost lose composure. The slight arc of her brow made him realize that she was confused as to why the atmosphere is silent. Knowing his blabber mouther cousin, Jasper always takes the initiative to say something just to make the silence less awkward. It must've been more than a minute when he entered the room and went straight towards that table. "Um... sorry but Jasper is out right now. I'm here as his substitute." He said, snickering internally. 'Right, substitute.' He didn't hear any reply from her. Just the silence talking for her making the awkwardness more prominent in the room. '...okay? Didn't expect that. Seems like Jasper is the most suited for this.' He thought, wanting to smack himself in the head for his stupid jealousy. 'Why did I even do that?' He sighed internally. "Uh... so I'm going to help you sit up now." He said, trying his best to make the air around them lighter but to no avail. He felt how heavy and gloomy it is which makes it even harder for him to say anything 'fun'. 'How the heck did he do it?' Lindon couldn't help but admire that sometimes dolt cousin of his. 'His rambling and jokes are useful to this kind of situation... that's why he was reluctant to give this to me. Ah! Stupid, why did you get jealous in the first place?' His urge to grab his hair and scream is getting stronger by the minute as he now realizes the reality of his skills at talking... which is none. 'Jasper... come back.' He silently prayed as he helps her sit up. Stacking some pillows at her back for support and then letting her back lean on to it. 'No, Lindon. You have to suck it up.' His conscience said. He couldn't say 'no' to that. Indeed, he needs to suck it up and be mature. Holding the bowl of warm chicken soup, he begins feeding her. "Uh... your meal is chicken soup. I'm going to feed you now." Is all he can say before he slowly puts the spoon on her dry lips and gently tilts the spoon upwards once her lips open. 'At least she's cooperative.' Lindon comments. 'Of course, she is, just look at her.' His other self points. He can't deny it... again. He then just sat there, with a bowl and spoon in hand. Feeding a sickly girl on her enormous bed. Silence befalls them once more until he finished feeding her. He's about to go to the bathroom for a small tub of warm water and a towel since she can't stand anymore nor can even lift her limbs. "Just let me be." Lindon stopped immediately whatever he was doing or about to do.
