"Thanks," The man said as he accepts the cup of coffee.
Bathed, clothed, and had eaten, He now feels refreshed despite the fatigue now pulling him to sleep. As the scent of coffee wafts through his nose and the bitter taste bombards his tongue, it now helps to keep his sleepiness at bay.
The two cousins watch him get comfortable and fight off his sleep to get the interrogation going. Theo, as he said his name was, is trying to find someone important to him.
"So, this important person got kidn*pped by those men that were pursuing you. You and your friends helped her escape and got separated along the way. Now those guys earlier are the lackeys of the one who kidn*pped this special person... is that it?" Jasper said.
"Yes," Theo replied stiffly, sipping his coffee.
"Did you have a trail on how to find this... important person of yours?" Lindon asks.
Theo shook his head, looking defeated. "I wish I had put a tracking device or something."
"The ones who took her will find out about it eventually and will dare remove it so that wishful thinking is useless even." Jasper points out.
Theo nods in frustration, knowing that he's right. Rubbing his hands on his face with a great sigh, making it tugging on Lindon's empathy for him.
The helplessness is so relatable that he wished to lend him a hand but the time pressure of his mission clashes with his want to help this poor man that it also makes him feel helpless and hopeless.
"We can't do anything about it, bro," Jasper said. "With little to no evidence on how to find this person of yours, we couldn't help you. Plus it seems that there's a strong group of people who are after you too. We don't want anything to do with it because we don't want any drama while staying here."
"Right, I understand. Again, thank you for helping me and I understand your concerns. I just want to add that you might need to relocate too since the Council will investigate once they've noticed that their wizards are now missing. The tracking device they've put in their body will burst once the wearer is detected to be dead."
"Ah..." was all Jasper can say as he looks at Lindon.
"May I ask you a question?" Theo said, chugging down his now warm coffee.
"Go ahead," Lindon says, watching him put down the cup.
"Are you warlocks of the other faction?"
Both cousins look at each other and nodded at Theo.
The warlocks and witches of the other faction of the witches and warlocks are the ones who mostly use nature and the four elements as their base of magic. More likely nearest to the Fea's and other supernatural beings.
These kinds of magic users believe that to understand magic, they need to be closer to the source and the sources whom they believe are the supernatural creatures. That is why their beliefs and way of performing spells are different from the other faction.
"And you helped me despite knowing that I'm from the other faction?" Theo asks curiously.
"Our belief is to protect nature and help the ones in need. Since your situation is under the jurisdiction of our belief then we must help you... of course if you ask me, we should've taken care of the damaged nature first before you since it's our priority but then you would be dead." Jasper rambles making Lindon sighs exasperatedly and pinches his nose bridge.
This made Theo chuckle as both of them starts to bicker. Smiling sadly as it only makes him remember the person closest to him, Diane.
***
The cold and crisp air in the morning is what she loves the most. Especially whenever she hears the birds chirp, it feels magical. Diane feels numb despite the peaceful ambiance of the surrounding of her room.
Everything that happened was like a dream, whether it's a happy one or a nightmare... she still doesn't know.
Her life is like a dandelion seed that got ripped off from its stalk, blown by the wind, and floats wherever it takes her. She knows that she's not on the ground yet, she's not yet ready to bloom. She's missing something important but what does that mean? She doesn't know.
She had felt it ever since she was little. She can feel that there was something missing, a great big puzzle that she can't finish. Diane just waved it off after some thinking and knows that her father and brother couldn't help. That's why she never told them.
Now that she's older and is out of her brother's reach, she felt that void again. Like a pulsing heart, beating louder and louder within her.
Ever since she had been with the two of them. She felt the faint beat of the void of her soul within her. She brushed it off since it was faint and her mind was in chaos at that time but now she couldn't do it since it's even ringing in her ears that she even needs to cover them, which is what's currently happening.
"Hey princess-- are you okay?" Jasper immediately went inside the room, kneeling in front of her. His hand begins to rub her back gently, trying to ease the pain.
Diane shakes her head as the ringing in her ears is now very loud that even tears begin to sprout out of her eyes. Jasper curses as he quickly runs towards the door.
"Lind! Hurry!" Jasper shouts out of the door and went back to rub her back.
Hurried steps are heard going upstairs. Once they ran up the stairs, they ran again going into the room. Two men talk inside, one with an anxious expression, and the other is a surprised expression.
"Hey... what happened?" Lindon asks, watching his cousin trying to ease her pain.
"I don't know. The moment I checked on her she was in pain." Jasper said.
"Have you checked on her?"
"Yeah... but there wasn't anything that's making her like this."
"...do you think that it's related to what they had done to her?" Lindon asks.
Jasper could only shrug as he keeps on rubbing her back.
Lindon finally looks back at the person who came with him. His brows arch as he watches his face turn from happy to sad.
"Diane..." Theo finally said. making Jasper look at him with shock and Lindon with an unknown expression.
