“Where are you? Are you nearby?... good. I’ll be out in a few minutes… shut it and don’t call me that. Just do your job.” She irritatingly said to the person that’s on the other line while tapping her foot on the floor.
Glancing upstairs, she ends the call before going up and heads into Diane’s room, making sure that the spell for helping her hear is back up again.
“Diane? Are you still awake?”
“…Cana? What is it?” the girl that’s now lying on the bed replies after hearing her.
“I’ll be out, apparently something came up in the Council and they need every help they need. I’ll be back in the morning so just go back to sleep.”
“Mmm… okay, bye. Be safe.” The girl mumbles… slowly going back to sleep.
As Arcana puts off the spell once again, she looks back at the now sleeping Diane. Sleeping so soundly like she doesn’t have a care in the world.
“…too innocent.” She mumbles then goes out the door without closing the door.
‘too Innocent to the point of being naïve… how irritating.’
She doesn’t like or hate the girl in general. She just doesn’t like how the girl views her own life just because she’s handicapped.
Too dependent on the point of being useless.
‘And that Theo is stupid even.’ She mused.
Knowing that what Theo had been doing is what had made their life to how it is now. He made her too dependent to the point of not doing anything for herself.
‘Plus, with how he hates the Council with everything he has. Surely, he doesn’t want their help when it comes to Diane… if they knew, it will become a mess.’
Clenching her hands tightly, Arcana looks back at the dimly lit house. Taking a deep breath before going inside her car.
‘I’m doing this for you Theo…’ she tells herself, not wanting to back out.
“I’m sorry.”

Sighing and wiping the earned sweat on her forehead, Arcana stretches her arms up. Some of her bones made noises, indicating that she worked hard for the day.
“Hey, Cana… aren’t you going home? You’ve been cooped up in here for a while.” Her coworker asks. Handing her a cup of coffee.
She smiles, accepting it then takes a sip. “I think I should.” Is all she says before heading out to her locker.
“Hi, Cana! Are you heading home?” someone asks her while she’s changing.
“Yup. I have to.” Arcana lightly jokes, then walks out of the room with her bag and coffee in hand.
“Hi, Cana!”
“Bye Cana!”
“See you tomorrow Cana!”
Random people greet her as she passes by. This is her normal daily encounter, being the Head Council’s daughter is though. People’s eyes are on to you, following you’re every move. One mistake could result in many effects that you wouldn’t want in your life. Even your parent’s expectations are heavy since they’ve accomplished in their field already.
Since her childhood days, there’s this heavy pressure that’s been put on her in front of everyone. That’s why she became careful in threading her every step… until she made a mistake. And the only witness was Theodore, the son of her father’s best friend.
He might’ve not remembered at that time since it might not have been that impactful to him, but it was the most impactful memory of hers that made a turning point of her life.
She accidentally killed the favorite pet of one of her friends during a party and it was then at that time that she managed to control mana… which killed the kitten.
In her state of shock, she cried loudly which alerted the adults. Her parents ran towards her, trying to calm her down. When everyone looked at what caused her to be stressed, they found the breathless and frozen body of the kitten.
It made quite a commotion since not only it made her friend sad, they found that it died due to overdosage of mana intake after they investigated the situation. Making the kitten frozen solid and died instantly.
When she was about to apologize… a boy about the age of ten came forward. Claiming her deed.
The young Arcana was about to fight off with him about it but with one single glare… she backed off. She watched him getting reprimanded by his cold father in front of many people. It made her uneasy since she knew she was at fault. But she kept silent as her young hero being hit by his father.
Since then, she stuck to him. Watching at the side when his father was still alive just because she’s afraid of the cold and burly warlock. She only dared to step forward once the man was dead.
And when she thought that she’ll save him this time by begging her father for supporting the wayward Theodore to school. She made another discovery when she went to the house of the twins where he always stops by before going straight to his house.
There was a young girl, younger than her. With big doe eyes, long beautiful dark hair, and fair skin. Like a princess from a fairy tale, Arcana then somehow knew that this young girl is someone to Theo.
And she was right.
For years, she kept it since it was a forbidden secret. A sister, hidden from everyone’s eyes. A mysterious and strange secret indeed. But… with what she did a day ago. That secret might be buried forever.
Once her foot stepped towards the last step going down the Council building, in an instant she appeared in a secluded place within the forest.
“Wha—” she wasn’t able to finish her sentence.
A hand immediately clamps down her throat making her body imbalance; thus, her whole being falling backward down the ground.
“Arcana.”
That familiar voice. Angry—no, livid.
His familiar golden eyes that’s been staring at her coldly, now murderous. His whole body is shaking, his hand that’s on her neck choke holding her is getting tighter and tighter. Slowly chocking her.
“Give me a reason to not kill you right here and now.” He said, but she couldn’t speak.
Not only that he’s chocking her slowly, she couldn’t even say anything. Just that her eyes start watering, making her sight blurry.
“It’s useless to cry or beg for forgiveness.” He said to her. “Just tell me where she is.”
