Lilith felt just so happy while walking down the street with her new/old book under her arm. Her day which began in such a horrible day was going brighter and brighter. Her smile and soul grew bigger with every step she gave under the sun, so she decided it was a perfect day to read in the park under a shadow of a big tree, where she used to go while feeling bad.
She sat there and was about to open her book when her phone rang. It was Martha again.
- Hallo! – Lilith answered faking she did not know who it was.
- Lilith! Thank god you are alright, I was so worried...
- Well you should not, I might seem a child but I am 20! So if you do not mind I can keep myself safe.
- But... are you still mad at me?
- What do you think? Is not it obvious!
- But I said I was sorry... I did not mean...
- I do not want to hear about it, I will write you later.
And with that she cut the call. Martha was always a dark cloud when her mood was so good, but for some reason she kept speaking to her; but the answer was simple because it was her one and only “friend”.
Her mood had darken again, what a shame. Lilith thought about getting up and leaving but even if she was in no mood of reading anymore at least she could stay in the shadow of that tree which had given her so much comfort while time went by and she grew lonely.
Lilith closed her eyes to be able to relax and protect herself from the light which had become hard. She did not know when, but the moment her dreams began, she knew she had fallen asleep.
She was in an unknown place even if it was somewhat familiar to her. The marble on the floor reminded her lightly to an opera theatre she once went to, but even so that place was different, it seemed to be always night there because even if in sleep time ran differently, she was sure it was not still night where she had fallen asleep.
Lilith looked up to find beautiful stars shinning on top of her and she could tell with complete confidence that they were smiling at her in a welcoming way. That place was so peaceful and beautiful that she wanted to stay there forever and get drowned in the beauty of eternal night. All was so perfect until she heard a known voice to her scream.
- You stupid child! How dare you come unannounced to my home!
- Mother? Is that you?
- Did not you hear me! Leave my home at once! You have not been invited to this sacred place. You are just a simple mortal.
- Mother, please... I do not know how to leave this place, and I do not want to leave. Please let me...
- No! You child came here, now find a way to leave! You have 5 minutes; otherwise I will lock you in the deepest place of the limbo.
Lilith got scared, if for some reason that dream turned up to be true, her mother would actually do what she warned. With desperation racing through her veins she began running to a place where she was able to see some light. It looked so warm and so beautiful, she could feel that maybe there the light could keep her safe of her mother.
She kept running as fast as she could until she felt the warm cover her. Her lungs were aching the way they should have while keeping her breath under water for too long. That did I not matter to her, because she reached her objective, the new place was different from the one before, this one was covered in light with gold filigree decorating the marble columns, doors and founts, there was a garden too, which invited her to lay down and leave her soul be free and happy. There was no night there and for some reason that made her feel safe. Suddenly a different voice spoke to her.
- Dear young lady, may I ask why have you come to my sacred temple?
- Sorry, I did not mean to bother or make you Sir uncomfortable. – Said Lilith with her voice broken and in the edge of tears.
- Do not worry dear, just answer my question.
- Oh, yes, sorry... Unfortunately there is no answer to the question, I was just running away from my mother’s home, because she threatened me with locking me in limbo if I did not leave at once, so I just kept running and ended up here.
- Tell me child, is you mother’s home an eternal night?
- Yes, and stars were shining...
- You made a good choice by running away, the moon does not take it good when mortals go to her so called home. Now, even if you presence here is more than welcome, you must go back to earth.
- I would gladly do it but I do not know the way.
- Do not worry lady, I will tell my son to guide you back, just sit on the grass next to the fountain.
With that the voice extinguished.
Lilith obeyed without any doubts, because even if the voice was warm, gentle and welcoming; she was sure that the man owning the voice was not nice if he was disobeyed. She had almost no time to think further when a new presence appeared, but it was just as a shadow. It walked to her and held her from behind from her shoulders; she was afraid that the voice would have been fake and that shadow was going to drown her, but as if it had read her mind, the shadow spoke.
- Do not be afraid of me, I will not hurt you... but now you need to relax.
- I am trying but...
- I know you are afraid, but just get a deep breath and let all tension leave you.
Lilith did as she was commanded and in a few breaths she could feel all her muscles relax, the voice of the shadow was just too hypnotic to her, like to try to resist the feelings it gave to her, for the first time she felt completely, protected, cared and even if she felt an awful alarm, she could not deny she felt loved.
- Now is time for you to leave, but you can bet we will meet again.
With that she felt some sort of ghostly kiss on her hair, and felt the shadow push her to the fountain.
Lilith woke up suddenly looking for air, just as she remembered it had been just a dream. And if it was not she would keep herself in the position of that experience being a dream. She did not know how long had been sleeping, all she knew is that in the moment she opened her eyes, sun was going down fast. She got up and began walking back to the dorm as fast a she could. She knew what would happen if for some reason her mother appeared and she was not hiding in her room yet.
It would be the worst nightmare for the rest of her life.
Once back in her dorm, the first thing she did was to check on her clock. It was 18:15. She had made it just in time. With a relieved sigh she left the book on her bedside table with all the care she was capable of.
Then she took out her boots, without noticing her feet were aching, probably from the run back to the dorm, the dress had the same destiny as the boots before; as well as her hair band so she could leave her hair get loose and soft, Lilith walked to her so hated mirror and looked at herself. But before she began judging herself as she normally did, this time she just spoke without thinking.
- Mirror, mirror, on the wall; who is the craziest of them all?
With that all she could see was her own reflection on the glass in front of her, without getting any answers. For the first time Lilith thought about herself as a girl, a woman with self-interests, desires, and dreams; but deep down she still knew she was still an outsider, just as had always been, nevertheless for the first time she did not care at all about it, she was herself and she was all she wanted to be. She smiled to herself and the same as she had done in the morning, she went to the bathroom, cleaned herself, brushed her hair and got ready to go to bed.
Once in her sleeping clothes, she took her book and began reading it from the first page. That story had always fascinated her, the way all could be good one second and in a few days all could get ruins just because of a bad choice someone made. Minutes went by, then hours until she fell asleep without noticing it. Again. But this time she did not appeared in that place where the night was eternal, all she was able to see was a black screen behind her eyes, nevertheless she heard a voice again, a female voice she had heard before, just a few hours ago when it had screamed her to leave. Her mother.
- My love, my beautiful child... dear daughter come to me, follow my voice and find my arms... let me hold you near my heart my dearest so I can be he mother I was never to you.... just get up from your bed my heart just walk to my open arms, I will never let you fall...
This time Lilith had been so weak that she did not woke up or tried to fight the impulse of obeying the enchanting voice. She got up and walked to the opened full size windows and reached the frame.
She could hear some screams coming from below her position, but she could not understand the words, the moment she was going to give the last step to her mother arms, a known presence filled her mind with warmth and love.
- My dear lady, please step back and follow to my voice... come back to me and stay where you belong, get back to your bed and hold to your strength. .. You need to live, to love and to be free.
With that she stepped back and opened her eyes.
What a weird dream she just had. All she could hear now were the screams of people below her.
- What had just happened? – Lilith asked to herself out loud – why am I here?
She was not able to recall at all what went through her head while she had been asleep, but she was sure that the only reason she was alive now, was that enticing voice which spoke to her just a second after she opened her eyes to return to reality.
Suddenly her door opened. It was the dorm leader.
- Lilith! Are you ok? What on earth just happened?! Were you about to jump out the window!
- Yes, yes... I am ok, and I am not quite sure what happened! I think I was sleep walking.
- Can you remember something? Maybe you were dreaming?
- I cannot remember a thing, all I recall is a voice telling me to wake up and step back.
- Well, good thing your mind told you to stop, in any case please if you need something or you need to speak to someone please let me know.
- Thanks! I really appreciate, I will let you know.
And with that the unexpected visit finished.
Lilith could not close her eyes again, her mind was repeating what had just happened; but as she just told the girl who entered her room, she was not able to remember a thing beside the voice.
She tried harder and harder to remember, but her mind refused to cooperate until in response to tiredness without noticing she had fallen asleep once again.
Lilith had returned unconsciously to the same place covered in gold which seemed to be an eternal and clear day. It was way too curious, she did not remember who she arrived there again, but she has.
- Probably I am losing my mind... – Lilith told to herself – Or maybe I am in no shape to face reality.
- None of those – A strange voice said.
She could remember that voice from her last visit, it have been that one who asked about the reason of her being there, but in a very different way than her mother had.
A strange clarity lightened her memories. Her mother.
It was her mother’s voice which had told her to get to the window, and jump. She was completely sure now. That realisation was like ice running through her spine, when all the truth hit her.
She was right about her mother, she wanted her dead.
That awful truth hidden in her mind had finally made its way to the surface, and for the first time she felt scared of her mother, it was true that the moon never had a real understanding or love for Lilith, but killing her? It was too extreme even coming from her. In the middle of her path of her thoughts, the same voice like if she spoken out loud answered.
- You are not wrong about what had just happened, it was a plan that came from your mother’s planning, nevertheless even if I told my son to stay away from the situation, he decided to intervene, even if the reason I do not know.
That moment another realisation came to her mind, the enticing voice which saved her was not her own brain or imagination bringing her back to reality, but if had been the same one which helped get out of the same place she had been standing for about an hour already.
- Well for I can see your mind is very sharp once you get a little clue – said the voice with the same gentle and soft tone.
- It was your son, right? I recall that from the last time I was here.
- Precisely my dear lady, as I said my son was the one who did not let you fall.
- But, how did he know where to find me? I do not even know who he is, or you?
- Sorry, dear I have not introduced myself, I have many names, but the most common or known is sun.
Lilith did not know how to answer to that, now inside of her heart she just felt emptiness, that gorgeous place was the temple of her mother’s enemy, the place where she felt safe since the moment she stepped in was actually the place where she was in the greater danger for what her mother had once told her.
- That is not truth at all – said a different voice; it was the same who kept her from falling. – Here you are in no danger at all...
- But my mother is...
- I know who your mother is, and I can assure you that my father and I do not care at all; beside as my father said, the moon had planned on making you commit suicide under her “love spell”.
- But you did not let me fall, why? Your father told me you were not supposed...
- To intervene?... yes I know, but I could not let you fall, so your mother achieve her most precious wish to lock you forever in limbo.
- Thank you, I really appreciate it, I am in debt with you.
- Not at all, I did it because I felt like it, not looking for something in return...
- I know, and that is the reason I am in debt with you; because you helped me even when you did not had to.
With that another presence appeared, it was an angry and dark one which reached that sacred place even if it was not there with them. And in less than a second, a wave of rage reached them followed by a frustration scream.
- Well it is time for you to leave – said again the sun’s voice. – Apparently the moon already found out where you are so better if you leave before she reach you.
- But I do not know...
- I know my lady, my son will guide you again, but you will have to learn that for yourself if you plan on coming here often.
- Thank I really appreciate it, but I would not want to bother...
Another fierce full scream reached them, but this time it was closer than before. Lilith began to panic, but as the last time she was instructed to relax. Lilith tried with all her might to do it, but she was panicking more and more with every second.
- Please do not focus on her rage try, try to relax so I can get you out of here.
- I am trying! – Lilith screamed while desperation ran through her veins.
- Please, just breathe and look at me.
- How am I supposed to look at you when you are not even...
The statement disappeared the moment a gorgeous man began to materialise in front of her, she could feel him close, and his energy flowing to her now too weak body; she was stunned for the beauty of the man in front of her. Her body relaxed at once when she looked up and her eyes locked with those of the person in front of her. Those eyes were reassuring, that gaze made her feel safe and once again she felt loved in the deepest part of her soul. The man in front of her pulled her closer, so she was able to get near him and between his arms.
- You are relaxed now, that is way better – he whispered to her ear – don’t you think?
- Yes...
And with that, she felt being pulled to somewhere else, but this time it was not a hard wake up, she knew she was back but this time the presence of that mysterious man did not vanish as it had when she was pushed into the fountain. This time he had gone with her the whole trip to her reality. He held her tighter and gave her another kiss on her hair, as he had the last time they encountered.
- I hope to see you soon my dear lady...
And with that he vanished.
