Hiding from fate

Lilith was walking faster and faster every second she got away from the campus. She could feel fear running through her veins again, Joseph had been looking for her, and as if it was not enough dawn was reaching faster and faster every second. She felt desperate, she needed to find her safe place but it does not matter how much effort she put on finding it, she was not able to feel it.

Darkness began to appear on the sky where the normal blue was turning into orange, pink and began turning purple when a woman reached her by the arm. Lilith almost jumped. The woman was quite different from what she normally saw around that neighbourhood; she had a very pale skin, brown eyes which made Lilith feel safe, but what actually caught her attention was her hair, it was a very strange turquoise green. Lilith suddenly felt safe but at the same time she wanted to run away from her.

-          Do not be scared of me darling, I am not here to make you any harm.

-          Who are you?!

-          It is not important for the moment, I am here just to guide you.

-          But...

-          The place you are looking so desperately is two blocks forward and one to the left.

-          Area you speaking about....

-          Yes, the place where winter and wolf lives in harmony with the lady.

Lilith did not get the clue on a first instance, but it was too late to ask, the woman had already resumed her walking and not she was out of Lilith’s reach. She began walking towards the direction the misery woman had told her. Then it hit her.

-          The winter and the wolf with the lady... b****y hell, how is that I did not get it! – Lilith said too herself.

With that she began running the last block she had left from the door to her safe sanctuary. Lilith reached the place the strange woman had told her to go, even if still she could not feel the place she was looking for, and the sky was almost navy blue. Lilith felt hopeless, she was not going to reach safety on time, and suddenly a weird chant began reproducing in her mind. Unconsciously she began singing it.

“Quis velit.

Dilectus loco esse tutus.

Videam ostium salutis, qui non est intus in oculis meis.

ubi velum falsa sunt inimici custodiam.

Ubi me abscondam a patronum tenebrarum metus.

Heu mihi, mi charissime Emporium situm tuum anima mea desperabilis.”[1]

Lilith, did not know where it came from, but it worked; the door in front of her opened and revealed the place she had been looking for so desperately. She did not know why it had not let her in as it had before, but she was glad she could be able to there again and feel protected from all harm.

She stepped in, but then something uncommon happened, Lady Lucy attacked her with a spell she could not hear before it hit her.

Lilith screamed and covered herself so she did not received the energy which had been thrown to her. She did not understand what was going on, or why Lucy had attacked her. It did not make sense at all.

-          L... Lady Lucy... – Lilith spoke softly – why are you attacking me, I. .. I mean no harm...

-          Lilith? Is that you?

Lady Lucy suddenly stop throwing spells to her. What had happened to her? Lucy could feel only a terribly dark and dangerous energy coming from the place she could hear Lilith’s voice. It made no sense at all.

-          How could I know it is you? You do not feel like yourself anymore!

-          Lady Lucy, it is me. The day we met you showed yourself to me and told me your story, and gave me a piece of Odette’s costume, a hair pin to protect me from my mother and my enemies. And last time I was here, Joseph Shepard came looking for me and you protected me and we’re injured by him.

-          Ok, I believe you, it is you. But why are you with such a dark energy?

Lilith got up from the place she had been hiding and looked at Lady Lucy. She caught her breath, it could not be.

-          Child!... Sorry, Lilith what happened to you? You look as if you had been just killed and brought to life by some kind of necromancer! Wait? Did you die?

-          No, at least now that I know of... – then Lilith considered it, what if...

-          Then may you tell me what happened to you?

-          I am not quite sure, all I know is that Mo...“M” kidn*pped me and put a curse on me, then...

-          Wait, “M” who is?

-          The father of the man who looked for me here last time.

-          What?! Oh dear, now I understand all of it. How can you be still alive after that?

-          To be completely honest with you I am not sure, all I know is what Jared told me, but it was not much. I know that that monster kidn*pped me, put a curse on me and a piece of it is in my heart. That is why when Jared and his father broke the curse I almost died.

-          That explains why you look the way you do. Do not worry, my home will help you heal faster.

With that said, Lucy went near her and hugged her.

-          I am so glad you could return. This place is hidden from everyone who might cause harm, which is why you could not find it. Your energy has changed into a one of danger and darkness.

-          Yes, now I know. But why did the pin no guide me here?

-          Ah, Lilith you and your questions, but this one I can answer; the pin does not just guide you, but also make you invisible to your enemies; now your energy is so dark and strong that it is hard for it to protect and guide you.

-          Oh, I never imagined that would be the reason.

-          I know, now I must ask a question myself. How did you know that chant would reveal my home to you? Or even better, how did you find me without the guide of the pin?

-          The finding part, because a woman told me how to find you even if I have no idea how she herself could actually find this place, and the chant, I did not know it came to my mind and I felt the impulse to sing it out loud.

Lucy had gone pale at the mention of a woman who told Lilith how to find her home, there was a lot of bad options of people or deities who could have found her, unless...

-          How was the woman who guided you here?

-          She was very very pale, brown – eyed and her hair was turquoise green.

-          And she was wearing a black dress on a style quite similar to yours but more extreme right?

-          Yes, I think so. Why?

-          Because I know that woman, I never imagine she would get a mortal body again, she was completely against the idea of it. Anyway, soon enough you will know who she is, but do not worry, she means no harm, on the contrary, if she helped you once she will be there to help you every time you need her. You can trust her.

That statement took Lilith by surprise, lately most people had tried to hurt her, but the idea of having someone on her side to actually take care of her was amazing, she knew she was not alone anymore, she had someone to count on even if she had no idea who she was.

-          Lucy, I am really sorry to ask this, but... would you mind if I stayed here tonight? The bad guy is looking for me, and I do not want to be running away from him. Please, Lucy let me stay here.

-          Of course Lilith, you can stay here all the time you want. Just do not mention that guy’s name or his father’s and everything will be good.

-          Thank you! May I speak to Jared from here?

-          Yes, of course. He is always welcomed were, but if you will ask him to come, tell me so I can prepare a place for him too.

-          Really? Thank you for the offer, but I do not want to bother...

-          Jared is never a bother! Actually I would love to see him.

Why that Lucy guided her to the back of the emporium where her actual home was.

The back of the emporium was way bigger than Lilith thought. It was warm and familiar even if because of the space size and shape, it could have not been that way. All the place seemed to be out of a dark moment of history, but it made Lilith’s heart fill with joy. It was the place where she belonged. She wanted to stay there and never go out to the horrible reality she had been facing. I felt like home.

-          Be welcomed to my house, get comfortable. – said Lucy with a little hint of pride in her voice.

-          Oh, Lucy! This place is incredible! Thank you so much for letting me stay here. I will always be in debt with you!

-          Do not be dumb! You do not owe me anything. I am glad to help a friend.

-          Thank you, I really appreciate it.

-          Ok, ok... stop this sentimental thing. Now get comfortable, I will get the table ready so we can have dinner, and please, if you also want to,  call Jared, I would be so happy to see him, after all his time.

Lucy guided Lilith to the place she was going to stay, they walked along a hallway which felt so welcoming to Lilith, she would have never thought of leaving. She felt at home, she felt for the first time, safe.

Lucy showed her a wooden black door and indicated her to enter. That was going to be her room for as long as she wanted to stay with her, with that Lucy welcomed her again and left her.

Lilith, looked at the door her friend had indicated her to open so she could get inside her room, it was big and to any other person it would probably had been intimidating, but for Lilith the sight of it was comforting, she knew that she was safe there; so, she sighed and opened the door.

She could not believe what was inside the place, it was as if someone had gotten inside her deepest desires to build that place specifically for her. It was her dream in reality!

The floor was covered in dark wood, the walls were made on something similar to stone with designed fabrics on specific parts of it, the ceiling was incredibly high, and to the cherry the windows were made of glass fractals which made the place look as a heavenly as she imagined it could have been.

Lilith stepped inside slowly, like waiting for it to disappear in front of her, as if waking up of a dream, but it did not; she walked slowly looking around and letting all her feelings drown her into the place she was admiring, suddenly she noticed, the place was changing according her desires. It was odd, but she could not remember seeing any furniture the moment she entered, but now there was an unbelievable big, black wood bed; a huge closet and of course a wonderful table, with everything a woman could need, want or dream.

It was amazing.

She wanted to explore every single thing that mysterious place was offering her, because deep inside of her, she knew that it was a gift to her from the place she was staying, walking slowly she reached the table, there she could see, different senses, makeup, jewellery, and everything that could have come to her mind; once there, she gave a few more steps until she reached that closet that seemed to be as big as her residence room, she opened it with a sigh, and what she saw made her freeze. It was bigger than she could have imagined, and there were all the clothing she could have ever imagined, from the most delicate dresses to the weirdest PVC clothing she had ever seen.

Lilith was overwhelmed by everything around her, so she decided the best would be to get out of there and take a moment to rest in the bed she had just seen. Yes, that would be a good idea.

She went to the bed, left her things on the floor and laid down onto the softest surface she had ever rested, it felt like floating on a cloud, just perfect. It was so comfortable for her that she did not notice the moment she fell asleep.

Lilith heard a soft song she could not recognise, it had no words, it was just a comforting sound which took her back to reality slowly. She could feel the way that amazing and melodic sound guided her through the land of dreams until she opened her eyes.

It was all dark inside the room now, and she could not see clearly throughout the windows; just then, she noticed she had fallen asleep without noticing. Looking around the room, she recalled where she was, and at the same time, she noticed she was not alone inside that wonderful place, someone was inside the room, and something told her, it was the same person who had sung to her so she woke up in a sweet way.

-          Who is there? – Lilith asked without any fear – I can feel there is someone here.

-          Well, I never imagined you could actually feel me being here, you are more sensitive than I thought.

-          Ahm, well, yes, I have been told so. But still you have not told me who you are, or why are you here for that matter.

-          We have me before, and I told you who I am, or how you can call me; and I am here because it was time for you wake up, the onyx inside of you could guide darkness here if you are not careful with your dreams; beside Lucy asked me to do it. Dinner is ready.

-          Oh, thank you! – Said Lilith.

Dinner was lovely, contrary to what she thought on first instance. Lucy was an awesome host and apparently she loved to prepare big meals for her guests, which Lilith noticed did not happened very often. The environment of the dining room was too perfect to be truth in a world out of that magical place, there was a fire, a big large table lighted with candles, three beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling making the place look like a fairy-tale castle. It was all incredibly beautiful, but there was also something which did not look common, something that Lilith did not notice until she actually thought about it. It was the lighting, it was all made by fire. There were not a single place where electricity was used in that place, that was the reason the room looked so different to those she had seen before on pictures or movies.  That place was the complete real thing, as out of one of her most ambitious dreams; but it was not all, the other side of her amazement was the food. There was a complete buffet in from of her. She could see so many dishes that she thought it would be impossible for them to eat it all. There was easily thirty dishes including entrées, soups, meats, salads, rice, drinks and of course sweets, and incredible amount of sweets. Lilith was really amazed.

-          Lilith! Welcome! – said Lucy cheerfully making Lilith go out of her amazement – come, sit wherever you want, there is a lot of place.

Lilith still could not believe her eyes, but she obeyed Lucy without any doubt.

She sat on a chair on the right side of the head of the table, where Lucy had sit down; after all, she was the queen of the castle. Once they were ready to start, a female figure began to materialise on the chair in front of Lilith, it was not completely clear, but it was obvious it was an incredibly shaped woman with long hair, but beside the fact that its energy felt old and wise the size of it was small, and she seemed to be very very young. Something inside of Lilith told her that she already knew that energy from somewhere, but she could not recall from somewhere, she had the feeling it had not been too far away from that precise moment, but where? Suddenly Lucy brought her back of her thought again.

-          Lilith, I know you cannot recognise her or see her clearly, even if you have already met before. She prefers it that way to keep safe, but I wanted to officially introduce you personally, then you will be able to remember her completely.

Lucy gave her some time to process her words, so Lilith was able to understand its meaning and maybe recall that woman from the depths of her memory; after all, she seemed to be making a great effort to recall when some light appeared on her eyes.

-          I recall parts of it, I know you took care of Lady Lucy after the incident with...

-          Do not tell his name, you know he can hear and track when he is named.

-          Yes, I recall. I was going to say “the incident with him”, and you are the one who woke me up just a few minutes ago; but for some reason I cannot remember your name.

Lucy smiled widely at Lilith’s confession, she was aware that she would not be able to remember a name, it was one of the ways that ghost had chosen to protect herself,  along with the fact that no one could see or remember her actual appearance but only remember she was female. It was actually surprising that she could notice, she was the one who woke her up recently. Or even a better question, how could she know that was the person who took care of her after that unfortunate episode just a few days ago. That woman  was sensitive, no surprise she had been chosen to be protected by the hair pin she had in her power that moment, the same one she carried on her hair that precise moment.

-          Lilith, let me introduce the one who always lives with me, but appears only when needed. Lilith this is Odette.

Suddenly every memory returned to Lilith. It was true, she had introduced herself before, but she could not remember it until that precise moment. Why?

Odette could see the confusion on Lilith’s face, it was normal, people was not used to that kind of things, but actually she took it better that she could have imagined, but just in case, she decided to explain her the reasons to keep in the shadows.

-          Lilith I know this is confusing, but it all has a reason. – Odette told her with a calming voice – let me explain since the beginning.

-          Sure, I would gladly accept a clarification, I actually have plenty of doubts.

-          No problem my dear, let me tell you my story and then if you have any questions I will explain.

And with that Odette began telling her story.
