We finally reached the Dark Forest, nestled just outside the royal territories and stretching across the gloomy landscape of the Dark Moon Kingdom. As we drove through, Shyla fell silent, her concerned expression replacing the smiles and laughter that had once filled the air. Tension radiated from her; she didn’t speak, and her breathing became short and rapid. She squeezed her hands together in her lap and nervously ran her fingers through her hair, looking troubled as if she wanted to be anywhere but here.
