A feeling of Contrite, Why?
A memory, a particular memory, played in her mind. A memory of a best friend she had known that was there for her when she was lost and broken. He cheered her up by being there for her when no one understood what she was going through. She could feel for the first time an emotion that wasn't good. She felt betrayed, dirty, and deceitful. And oil of guilt seemed to cling to her, and no amount of soap could wash it away. Shayla knew she should feel like everyone else and be thrilled right about now but, instead, another wave of guilt crashed over her, and her stomach churned, thinking and, for the first time, saying it out loud.
"Shane Hunter is locked away for good."
Everyone in her immediate circle, people like her parents, Gary, and his family all rejoiced.
