Dragon's Queen

Chapter Ten

It had been eight weeks since the barbeque at the compound and life was good. We had told the club two weeks ago that we were expecting, though most of the old ladies had figured it out. Carly and I didn't end up taking Demi out, we had it planned for tonight when the boys were going on a run for two days. It was the perfect time to do it; Garrett, Stix and Menace wouldn't be there so they wouldn't know any different, we just told them we were having a girl’s night and would be staying in. We decided it would gives the boys some reassurance to know we were all together and at Garret and my place. Something was going down with a rival club, Garrett wouldn't tell me what but I had heard him on the phone a couple times mentioning another club and a hit? I knew what they were going to do was dangerous and I was scared but Garrett assured me he would come home and I believed him.

"Alright I'm off beauty, enjoy your girl’s night." He pulled me in for a bear hug and kissed me so passionately I'm sure it would stay with me forever. I needed to tell him how I feel in case he doesn't come back, I know I shouldn't think like that but it's a possibility.

Taking a deep breath, I let all my fears go and told him, "I love you", there I said it.

I looked up and Garrett when he began stroking my face and he had the most beautiful smile on his face. "Thank god Beauty because I love you too" he kissed me again, just as hard and just as deeply before he pulled back and pressed his forehead against mine; sighing.

"I need to go now baby, I'm going to miss you but I'll be back in a couple of days. Trucks there if you need." He kissed me again quickly and then he was gone, striding out the door, starting up his bike and driving off. I had a bad feeling but I pushed it down, he'd be back in no time.

 I hurried back up the stairs, I knew the girls would be here soon and I needed to get showered and changed. We were having a spa date then coming back to the house, ordering pizza and getting ready for the night ahead. I couldn't drink so I was designated driver but that never stopped me having fun. By the time I had showered and changed into my new purple scoop neck maxi dress, the girls rang the door bell. I made my way down stair and opened the door for them to find Axel in tow; this would not do at all.

"What's this?" I should have known that they guys wouldn't let us go anywhere on our own; this new threat had to be serious.

"Dad assigned Axel to us; can you believe it, one night was all I asked without a f*****g babysitter and he can't even do that for me!" Demi was fuming and I didn't blame her, this definitely put a dampen on our plans; however, I was always up for a challenge and Demi needed a night away from life in the club and I would do whatever it took to give it to her.

"You're not coming with us Axel" I knew it wouldn't fly me giving Axel orders, he didn't answer to me or any woman for that matter, but I could try to convince his not to come.

"Sorry Evelyn but I don't take orders from you. This comes directly from Blaze, you three aren't to be left unguarded." He crossed his arms, daring me to argue with him further. It was useless even trying, Blaze's orders were law.

"Fine, but we're going out and you are not stopping us" I pointed at him and turned to go and grab my things.

"I don't think so" he argued.

"Your orders were to keep us safe and guard us not to prevent us from going out. Deal with it." I was so done with this conversation, I was hungry and frustrated and desperately wanted a manicure.

"Let's go" I smiled at the girls; ushering them out the door and locking it. They stared at me with stunned looks on their faces.

"What?" I questioned.

"You didn't just do that" they said at the same time.

"Do what, argue with Axel? He's not a brother yet, he has no authority. I would never have done that to a patched member." I hoped into the passenger seat of Carly's car and waited for them to gather themselves. Ridiculous.

We arrived at the spa for our appointments; we all desperately needed pampering so all opted for the deluxe manicure and pedicure. It took about an hour and a half and we were headed back to the house to get ready for the night ahead.

I walked through the door and dropped my things on the table at the entrance. I was starving and pizza sounded so good right now.

"I'm going to pee, can one of you order the pizza please, just make sure there's no mushroom or bacon. The smell makes me want to puke." I smiled and chucked the menu at Carly.

"Sure, thing preggo." She gave me a s**t stirring smile and grabbed her phone. I ran up the stairs and into the toilet. A quick vomit and pee later and I headed back downstairs. The girls had managed to find my big stereo and recruited Axel into moving it into the living room; there also appeared to be several mirrors which had also been moved.

"So, we figured we could do our makeup down here together while we ate our pizza." Demi said as way of explanation.

"Sounds good, how long till the foods here?" I asked.

"Ten minutes they said, but you never know" Carly replied; sitting down on the floor in front of a mirror.

"Awesome, I'm starving." I sat myself in front of a mirror and got working on my makeup.

I was so thankful once I'd gotten some pizza into me; I could finally relax and feel good about the night ahead. I headed upstairs to get changed; I'd gone for a brown smoky eye instead of my normal black, I didn't want to do too over the top and I felt that it was just enough. I pulled on one of my new dresses; a black bandeau skater dress and then grabbed out my favourite pair of red platform strap heels. I walked over to the mirror, messed up my straight hair slightly and grabbed my phone off the bed. I snapped a sexy selfie in the mirror and sent it to Garrett.

'We miss you xx'

I put my phone into my purse, sprayed myself with perfume and headed back downstairs to the girls. They were both waiting by the door when I came down and they looked stunning. Demi was wearing a black lace bralet, a pair of white high waisted shorts and a pair of black stilettos. Carly was wearing a simple cream and black lace playsuit with black wedges.

"Holy s**t! You're one hot pregnant woman" Carly exclaimed, as she did Axel walked out into the hallway and shook his head at us.

"f**k this as a joke, I'm going to get into so many f*****g fights." he huffed to himself.

I laughed and turned to him, "relax for once Axel and have some fun." I felt sorry for the guy sometimes, prospecting in a club by yourself had to be tough, poor guy got all the crap jobs and by the looks of him now, he'd rather be anywhere but here.

"That's not going to happen Evelyn. Try and make it a bit easier for me tonight okay girls. Let's go." He ushered us out of the house and towards Carly's car.

As I hoped into the car my phone signalled a message; it was Garrett.

'f**k me baby! You're killing me. I'll see you soon. Love you x'

I smiled to myself and typed out a reply.

'Love you too. Be safe xx'

I tucked my phone back into my purse and invested myself in the night ahead.

We'd been out at one of the local college bars for two hours and all of us had been hit on at least once. Carly and I were dancing together when I heard a ruckus and look over towards Axel who was talking to Cas and Yos... A very pissed off Cas. I looked over towards the bar where Demi was flirting with some guy; this was going to go one way and it was with a fight. I needed to step in here before things got serious. I walked over to the guys, when I got closer I realised that Cas wasn't upset about Demi, in fact I don't think he'd even seen her yet.

"What's going on?" I asked as soon as I was in ear shot of the them. They all turned to me at the exact same time and with the looks on all of their faces I knew I wasn't going to like the news.

"Babe you need to come with us." Yos said with a grim look on his face.

"What the f**k!" Cas yelled and scared the s**t out of me. He charged past me and towards Demi and the random guy who she was now making out with. I watched as he marched up to her and grabbed her, spinning her towards him with an angry snarl on his face. Said random guy went to step in but one look from Cas had him tuck tail and practically run from the building. Demi and Cas started yelling at each other, she then pushed him and stormed off; Carly hot on her heels.

"Drama drama drama! So, what's the issue?" I plastered a fake smile on my face but I knew that whatever they had to say, I wasn't going to like. Yos looked at me with such a sad look on his face and then Cas who had semi cooled off came up behind me and threw his arm around me.

"We need to talk babe... but not here." Before I could respond they were leading me outside and I was being tucked in the car next to Carly and a very pissed off Demi. We arrived back at the club house, which to me seemed strange since they would just have to take us all home eventually anyway, but who am I to argue. Walking into the club there was such a sombre atmosphere, I just knew it was bad. I looked around the room for Garrett when I saw that both Menace and Stix were at the bar. Carly ran over to Stix and he pulled her in for a hug and kiss before turning to Prez; Prez who looked shattered. It was at that moment that I looked around the room after not seeing Garrett and the looks on each member face told me everything I needed to know.

"Where's Garrett?!" I all but yelled, hoping that he was just standing behind another member but knowing that he wasn't.

"Ev come here." Prez asked nicely which isn't his usual style but I wasn't going anywhere, I wanted answers.

"No! Tell me where he is right now!" I could feel my heart start to race and knew I needed to slow it down for the baby's sake but I couldn't; all my worst fears were coming true.

"Hunny you need to calm down, it's not good for the baby" Pip said as she came up and wrapped her arm around me and led me to Prez. I was shaking from adrenaline and nerves, I knew this was going to be bad.

"Garret's gone baby girl, we were ambushed on our ride tonight and he was shot, before we could get to him, Hawks took him and fled." Prez looked at me with such remorse, tears started to spill from my eyes. "No no no NO! He can't be, he needs to be here with me, I can't do this on my own!" I sobbed and fell into Prez's arms, I could hear the sobs of the other old ladies but I didn't care. My heart was racing and I started to feel faint before I knew it everything went black...

I woke up from my black out wondering where I was until I realised, somehow, I was at home in my bed. I pulled the covers back and headed out and downstairs; moving towards where I heard the voices. I turned a corner into the kitchen to find Carly, Stix, Prez and Pip all crowding around talking in hushed, angry tones. I wanted them to leave.

"What are you all doing here?" I questioned.

"Oh Ev, I'm so sorry!" Carly came over and pulled me into a hug but I couldn't return it.

"You all need to leave, I want to be by myself." I said, pulling away from Carly and walking around to the other side of the island; distancing myself.

"What? No Ev, you need us" Carly replied with a shocked look on her face.

"No, I don't, I need Garrett but he's gone and now I need myself." I stated, taking in their shocked faces.

"I'm not leaving you Ev" Carly started to talk but I couldn't listen. All I could think about was how I missed Garrett and I needed him now more than ever. I was hoping that I would wake up from this nightmare and he would be here with me.

"Just leave! All of you now, just please leave me alone!" I was yelling at the top of my voice, I just needed them to leave me alone. I had to get out of here and they would never let me leave.

Carly started to protest before Prez cut her off with a stern shake of his head. "We'll go but we'll be back later to check on you" Pip kissed the top of my head and gave me a tight hug before they turned around and left.

After I heard their bikes start up and the noise fade down the street I ran up stairs and started packing. I just threw everything I could find into bags as quickly as I could. I couldn't be here any longer with constant reminders of Garrett. Once all my bags were packed I picked up my phone and called the one person I swore I would never ask for.  

"Sarah, I need your help."

I drove for the few hours to my dad's house and found Sarah waiting for me on the steps of their house. I knew she wouldn't judge and that she would help me anyway that she knew how; she owned me that much.

I hoped out of the car and was greeted by her cheery voice.

"Evelyn, I'm so glad you're here. You'll be ok now." She grabbed a couple of my bags from the car and gave me a sad smile.

"No, I won't, I just won't have to deal with the constant reminders of Garrett."

Now to start my new life with me and my baby. I didn't think I could do this without Garrett but I need to be able to. I'm on my own.
