Night Out

Scott, on the other hand, wanted more from me than I was willing to offer. During my residency, he was accommodating, but sometimes that bordered inappropriately. I never said anything because so people are just born flirts, and I wouldn't fault anyone for that. He never did anything s****l to me and never implicated it either. Scott only was over-friendly sometimes, and it was in a way that would make you uncomfortable if having to endure for too long. I did everything I could to make sure he knew we were just friends, and that is where things would stay for us. I never excepted any invitations from him to go anywhere outside of the hospital. If we ever saw each other, it was by pure coincidence, and thankfully I had been out with other friends. "Yeah, the joys of starting and owning your own practice, I get to live at work." I laughed. "Well, you are too beautiful to work your life away. You should come to hang out at Eclipse with all of us!" Scott spoke eagerly. "Yeah, maybe one night, that would be fun." "Great! Oh, I was calling to let you know that I referred someone to you. I hope you can make time for them. His name is Greyson Sawyer, so you know when he calls." "Thanks, Scott, I will keep that name in mind. I need to be going, thanks again." I rushed as I hung up before he could say anymore. I already knew he had referred someone to me, but it was nice that he had the courtesy to call and inform me. Scott didn't seem too hopeful when he mentioned that he had referred someone. So, I wasn't sure if he thought the guy would even call to make an appointment. However, I believe in the utmost privacy of all my patients, so I wasn't going to inform him that he did indeed schedule an appointment. I also didn't have any intention of following Scott up on his offer to go out to Eclipse. The night club was the most popular in the city, but that's expected with a new club. Give the locals somewhere new to go for a while till they get bored. Even though I have listened to Liz rave for hours over the new place, I wasn't interested. I didn't go out with my friends as much as I should, but I was swamped. I needed to get things smoothed out with the practice and needed to get my receptionist on my page or out the door. I printed out some papers that I kept in patient charts and started to fill out the information that I did know about Greyson Sawyer. I thought about doing a google search on him to find out a little more about him. However, I didn't want what our diluted world thought of a person to impact my judgment. If I couldn't get a read on him while he was here tomorrow, I would do some research. For now, I would just finish his paper chart and set it on the table for tomorrow. My cell phone pinged with an incoming text, so I walked back to my desk and picked the phone up. When I looked at the screen, I saw my friends face light up my screen. Blake Maines was a beautifully sculpted man with his big brown eyes and short brown hair. When I first ran into Blake on the street, my breath was taken away by the pure beauty of his face. We were both rushing, and he had spilled his coffee all over my blouse when we collided. I wanted to be so angry with him, but I couldn't bring myself to be mad. Blake was stumbling over his words as he tried to apologize fiercely to me. Then without being able to control it, I had started laughing as I stood there, shirt soaked, and Blake looking shocked. Then he began to laugh as well while trying to wipe some of the coffee off me. We had exchanged numbers that day and have been friends ever since. Blake was a professional dancer in the ballet, even though he had a voice that would bring you tears. I hoped one day he would have the confidence to allow someone to hear his voice in a non-joking manner. I opened his message, and he asked me to grab drinks tonight. I typed out a quick reply letting him know that I would love to. I added that I had an appointment tonight but that I could meet him where ever he wanted. Before Blake could reply, I noticed the time. If I didn't get going, I was going to be late for this appointment.       I quickly shut my computer down and turned out the lights as I went throughout the office. I hailed a cab and let them know the address of where I was going. The neurologist wasn't that far away, but it was cold out, and I didn't want to rush. When I arrived at the building, I looked up because it was in a much larger building than I had expected. I expected a neurologist or any doctor to own their offices, but they were rarely in a tower of buildings. Those offices were expensive and not worth the cost of what you would be making. I walked inside and had to tell security my purpose of being in the building and where I was going. They directed me to which elevators to take and told me to go to the tenth floor. Once inside the elevator, I could see that there were thirty floors total in this building. I pushed the button for the tenth floor and held onto the railing as I ascended. Once on the tenth floor, I walked through the practice doors and checked in at the front desk. "Thanks so much, you will be seeing Dr. Matthew Reece. A nurse will be out shortly to get you." The receptionist stated. As I sat in a seat filling out the new patient paperwork, I could feel my legs shaking. I closed my eyes and took a breath to try and steady my nerves. I opened them when I heard someone yell my name. I looked up at the nurse, and she led me through to a room. Taking my vitals and asking me the necessary questions needed, the same questions I had already answered on all those forms.      She quickly imputed everything and then let me know that the doctor would be with me shortly. I didn't note anything that I was a doctor, because sometimes you were treated differently, knowing you already knew much of what they did. I heard a knock at the door and someone asking to come in, I gently replied, and the door opened. "Hello, my name is Dr. Reece." He held his hand out. "Lily," I simply replied as I shook his hand. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lily. What brings you in today?" He asked, pulling the stool up to have a seat in front of me. I was shocked at how tall he was and that he sat just as tall. Doctor Reece had dark brown eyes that looked very intense. He had dark brown hair that he kept combed back neatly with something to hold the strands in place.      He wasn't wearing any cologne that I could place, which was a relief since he was so close to me. Wearing a clean fit blue suit with a white dress shirt and a blue tie to match. He had his lab coat on over the suit, and I would imagine that is why it was so cold in this office. I would be burning up if I had to wear all that daily. He was staring at me very sternly, and I wasn't entirely comfortable under the gaze. So, without hesitation, I started to explain what was going on. "I have been having difficulty with my memory," I paused to see if he would interject. When he didn't, I continued, "when I try to recall facts, it is hard to bring them forth. Also, when I think back on my past as a child or any point. I get flashes as if they are memories, but they seem hazy as if they aren't real." "Have you had problems with your memories or retaining information in the past?" Dr. Reece asked. For a moment, I had to think about that trying to figure back to times that weren't so clear to me. "From what I can remember, no. There isn't anything coming to mind." He just sat there staring at me as if trying to determine something. At first, I thought he was trying to decide whether I was telling the truth or not.
