- POV Santiago -
Seeing Margot rush out into the street running away from me, like I was some mistake, was crap. It was made worse by Luke calling out to me that I had no pants as I was running down the street. I looked like a fool. What was with me, I never chased girls.
Usually, with Stacey and the other girls, I would be practically begging them to go. Or sneak out of the room, even if it was my room as soon as they were asleep, leaving them to wake on their own and quickly make their way out of the house. But with Margot, I had helder her practically all night. And worse I never tried to f*ck her or even really tried anything.
I was such an i***t!
I had woken with such a raging b***r. It probably frightened her so much. I was more than certain the way she cuddled was oblivious to her effect on guys. It wasn’t that she was bad at cuddling, gosh she was great at it. But it was the way kids do, snuggling close clueless that her touching certain spots would arouse even a corpse. She had put her hand just below my belly button when she was trying to lift herself to get the water on the side of the bed and I had to groan. I had to pretend she had hurt me, instead of what she was actually doing, which was making my d**k rock hard. I had pulled the duvet over us before she could see anything.
I was certain of two things, 1) the rumour wasn't true, and 2) I needed to find a way for us to be together in more situations.
I could NOT just leave it up to fate that she would show up at our next house party. I needed something she couldn’t run away from. She was clearly too shy, to talk to me on Sunday Morning. Luckily it was Monday and I had a plan.
Weeks ago Mr B had mentioned how horrible many of our essays were on Animal Farm. The class had fought him on it, saying it was a sh*t book. It finally came down to us doing independent learning. We would all pick our own book, look at it through one of ten topics that Mr B had provided, and compare it in some artistic way to the class. The best part was for our next assigned he would be making it a group project, it was going to take 6 glorious weeks!
Causally I walked up to Mr B. “Hey sir, are you making the groups or are we?” I asked before class had even started just chatting him up at his desk whilst students came in. Not one of them Margot yet. I’d have to act fast.
“Yeah, I was thinking of letting everyone pick for themselves.”
“Well, I’m just concerned because you know Margot’s all alone… like I mean she’s the only girl. Jake and Toby already steal her notes for history. Are you really going to let her be with any loser here? Make her do all the work. I thought you were a feminist!”
“Margot’s smart enough to pick her own partner.” Mr B said without looking up from his desk, shuffling papers.
“Yeah, she is. But she’s also too nice, she’ll say yes to the first guy because she’ll feel bad.”
At that, he looked up. Clearly, he knew her fault of always helping. Margot was always being too nice even if it hurt her.
“I just think,” I continued, “you should make the teams. You know for her safety. You know how much she’ll work for a good grade, and these losers will take advantage of her.”
“And you’re the man for the job Santiago? You sure you won’t do the same to her?”
“I’m offended sir” I teased back. And casually walked away with my seed firmly planted right when Margot walked in. As I turned to walk away I heard Mr B call out to Margot to speak with him.
-----
“As most remember this independent project will be done in pairs,” Mr B continued to address the class.
“I call Margot!”
It was Steve, a massive stoner kid, who was called out last class for having the worst essay. Having said that, Animal Farm was about China. Just reading the back jacket would have told him otherwise.
“No fair! You can’t call a person. Margot, would you be my partner?”
It was Dan who had come up with more excuses as to why his homework was never done. Few no more creative than the dog ate it.
I just looked at Mr B, mouthing at him “Told you so!”
“No one is reserving or asking anyone to be their partner. I will be assigning you all. Santiago you're with Margot. Everyone else, this row and this row look right; that's your partner. That row and that row look left, that’s your partner. Are we good? Now for the project, I will need a weekly check-in and you will have a checklist to follow”
Mr B continued but I was so excited I had tuned him out. The plan had worked, and according to this check-in and checklist Mr B had planned it seemed like Margot and I would have to meet nearly every week. I was so pleased!
