Now the issue wasn't the suddenness of the question, rather, it was the answer which I had been obligated to provide.

No doubt, he was going to take me for a joke and just the same way step mom and Lilian always made fun of me, calling me names, he was going to do the same even though he didn't say it to my face.
Gulping, I grabbed the hem of my dress as I racked my brain on the perfect answer to give so he wouldn't be misled.
“It's fine if you don't want to answer me.” He said and before I could explain the reason why I had reacted that way, attributing it to the suddenness of his question, he said, “I shouldn't be asking about your private life… I'm sorry for being curious.” He muttered.
