Their encounter had left her breathless, but it was more than just the passion that lingered. Lena's flashback faded, replaced by a nagging sense of guilt. She'd slept with John, Max's high school friend. "Was I trying to replace Max or prove a point?" she wondered. Lena's conscience wrestled with the idea that she'd crossed an invisible line. "Max and I are over," she reminded herself. "I deserve happiness." But the guilt lingered, fueled by memories of Max and John's friendship. She envisioned Max's face, his potential reaction if he found out. "Would he care?" Lena wondered. "Does it matter?" Lena's thoughts swirled, uncertainty gripping her. She replayed their conversation about Max, John's words echoing in her mind: You deserve better. Your child deserves better. Lena's heart swelled, feeling seen and understood. John's empathy and support were a balm to her soul. She couldn't help but compare John's kindness to Max's abandonment. The contrast was stark. As she approached her apartment, Lena felt a sense of gratitude towards John. Their connection went beyond physical attraction; it was a deeper understanding. Lena entered her home, her thoughts still with John. She smiled, feeling hopeful. Girl! You're home? Sophia asked, screaming Rachel's name and trying to announce Lena's arrival. Rachel rushed out of her room. Sophia and Rachel exchanged mischievous glances, their curiosity piqued. They both gathered Lena. Spill the tea, Lena! Sophia demanded, leaning in. Rachel nodded vigorously. "We want every juicy detail!" Lena laughed, her cheeks flushing. "You guys are impossible," she teased. Sophia and Rachel chimed in unison, "Come on!" Lena surrendered, a sly smile spreading. "Okay, but don't judge me." Sophia and Rachel made zipping motions across their lips. "Scout's honor," Rachel promised. Lena took a deep breath, launching into her story. John and I...it just happened. We connected on a deeper level. Sophia's eyes sparkled. "And?" Lena's voice dropped to a whisper. The chemistry was undeniable. Passionate, intense...magical. Rachel fanned herself. "Wow, I'm blushing!" Sophia leaned in closer. What about conversation? Did he talk about Max? Lena nodded. He understood my pain and supported me. No judgment. Sophia and Rachel exchanged knowing glances. "He's a keeper," Sophia declared. Rachel nodded. "Especially if he makes you happy." Lena smiled, feeling grateful for her friends' unwavering support. "Guys, I need your honest opinion," Lena began, sipping her coffee. Sophia and Rachel exchanged curious glances. "What's up?" Sophia asked. Lena took a deep breath. Do you all think what I did with John was right? Max abandoned you and your baby, Rachel added Sophia's expression turned thoughtful. "How do you feel about it?" Lena hesitated. Guilt's eating me alive. Was it wrong to sleep with him? Rachel leaned in. Why wrong? Max and you are over. Sophia added, "And John's not responsible for Max's actions." Lena nodded, but uncertainty lingered. "But they were friends," Lena countered. "Doesn't that make it...awkward?" Sophia shrugged. Maybe initially, but life moves on. You deserve happiness. Rachel chimed in. Besides, John's gorgeous! You'd be crazy to pass up that opportunity. The friends laughed, easing Lena's tension. Sophia's voice turned serious. Lena, trust your instincts. If you connect with John, don't let Max's ghost hold you back. Lena smiled, feeling reassured.
