"You are awake?" Surya said, standing just behind her.
Suddenly she felt angry at him, all this just happened because of him,
"No! " She gave a stern answer. "I am walking in my sleep. " forgetting the fact that she is playing the role of a maid, a common maid!
This sudden realization made her want to hit her head somewhere. She again did something for which she have to chew her pride and say sorry to a man she hates.
"I am so....sorry, your majesty! " my foot! She mumbled in her head because somewhere deep down she now believed the fact that he is the ultimate reason behind it all.
She expected him to be angry and a scowl resting on his face but she was surprised when she saw a remorseful expression. "Don't be! " he sighed.
"I am worthless, a careless, i***t who could not take care of his people, who just keep on creating problems." He said moving his gaze from her face to the moonless sky.
"Why are you saying this? " Rajani could not help but ask. She wondered what happened, which brought such a sudden change in him.
"I killed fifty people, fifty innocent lives who have nothing to do with me or the sultan of Delhi! Who lost their lives because of my idiotic idea! " he was now breathing heavily.
"I...I..." he was about to say something but stopped. "Its all my fault! " he breathed out.
A rush of guilt washed over Rajani. He think he's guilty for those fifty lives? Because he ordered them to jump into the pond, without checking the way, if it was safe?
But it was she after all who was actually responsible for this whole tragedy. She was the one writing a letter to Azahar Khan, telling him about the secret passage.
She was at the fault! And she felt guilty, not just because of taking the lives, but for Surya!
He is blaming himself so badly for something he never did!
The thing she did!
"Maybe you are not! " she mumbled lightly under her breath. But Surya still heard it.
"What? " his head snapped in her direction and his eyes scanning her face. "Maybe you are not the one at fault?" She said looking at the ground, avoiding his eyes at any cost, because if she looked up at him, he will be able to see the guilt and remorse in them. And she cannot let that happen.
"Why do you think so? ......I am not worthy to become a king....I am a looser, a bloody coward who ran away from the battle field to save his life, leaving his people in the middle of nowhere to die...." Surya said, his voice hourse and once again he looked away and continued.
"I should not have sent them into that pit of water....I should have known it wasn't safe. "
"Maybe, it was safe.....but someone closed the way out." Rajani said as once again Surya's head snapped towards her. "I don't get it?" He said, eye brows arched up in the middle, confusion clearly written on his face.
"Maybe, they.....knew about that passage? And they closed the pond in the palace and so all those men who you went there under water, could not reach the surface because it was already closed? And then they died because of the lack of air? "
A few seconds Surya's mind pondered on the possibility of what she said. But how would they know?
There's no way, they could know about that secret passage.....unless and until someone told them about it.......someone who is among them. And the first possibility of that someone was this girl, standing in front of him!
A deceiving beauty, a hell attractive woman who could allure anyone, could she be the one culprit here? Could she be one of the spy, they sent here?
He looked at her again.
But she looked like a princess in disguise!
